Halloween has become an expensive holiday, with Americans spending approximately $11.6 billion on Halloween each year, according to Boston University’s “BU Today.” But that doesn’t mean that you have to spend a fortune on the holiday and comparison shopping for the lowest prices can help you save money as you prepare for a Halloween party or for greeting trick-or-treaters at your home.

While Target tends to have better deals on Halloween costumes, if you’re shopping for candy or other food items, you’ll often save by shopping at Costco. If you want to be the go-to house on the block that hands out full-size candy bars on Halloween, then you’ll want to buy the Hershey’s Variety Pack at Costco. This 30-count pack is $31.99 at Costco, but it costs $53.99 at Target.
Hershey’s Kisses
- Costco price: 19.99
Hershey’s Kisses are a great choice to hand out on Halloween if you’re expecting lots of trick-or-treaters and you’ll pay $19.99 for 330 of these chocolates at Costco. Target has the same 56-ounce bag on sale for $24.99.
Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats

Whether you decide to hand out these treats on Halloween or need them as a base for your Halloween baking plans, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats 60-count are a great deal at Costco for $15.99. Target has the same 60-count pack for more than double at $33.99.

Target doesn’t have the six-pack and charges $4.19 per box, so if you’ll save on the per-box cost by buying from Costco.
