If you’re looking to drive something sleek, two cars that can deliver on that are a Tesla and a Nissan Maxima. Though the Nissan Maxima was discontinued in 2023, it was called a “four-door sports car,” with 300 horsepower and an attractive interior.

Would using gas to drive the retired Maxima cost more or less than the monthly charging price of a Tesla? Here’s a cost breakdown.

How Much Does It Cost To Charge a Tesla Every Month?

Though Tesla drivers save on gas, they have to factor in the cost of charging the vehicle. GOBankingRates has previously reported that charging a Tesla costs about $47 a month.

This is based on the fact that a typical driver drives about 1,100 miles a month. For the average Tesla, which consumes around 25 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of power per 100 miles, a driver would need 275 kWh of electricity for the month. Overnight charging at home costs around $0.10 per kWh. This calculation also factors in that drivers might use public fast charging at about $0.45 per kWh sometimes, so the blended cost would be around $47.

How Much Does It Cost To Buy Gas for a Nissan Maxima?

Based on GOBankingRates prior research that drivers go about 1,100 miles a month, and the fact that the 2023 Nissan Maxima gets 24 combined miles per gallon (mpg), according to Kelley Blue Book, here’s how the cost breaks down.

AAA reported that the average national gas price as of this reporting is around $3.05. If you divide 1,100 (the average number of miles drivers go a month) by the Nissan’s combined mpg, you get 45.8 gallons used per month. Multiplied by the national average gas price, that’s $139.69 spent a month on gas.

Which Car Is Cheaper To Power?

Based on these findings, it’s much cheaper to charge a Tesla than buy gas for a 2023 Nissan Maxima. You’ll save over $92 a month by having a Tesla rather than filling up a Nissan Maxima.

Granted, these calculations are based on averages. So, if you’re on a road trip with a Tesla, you’ll spend more because you’re using public charging stations. If you’re not driving 1,100 miles a month with your Nissan, you’ll spend less than $139.69. But it does seem that the average scenario revealed it would be cheaper to be a Tesla driver.
