As 2025 closes out and 2026 approaches, there are so many best of lists to sort through, but one that should definitely catch your eye comes from Car and Driver. The automotive publication released their 10 best cars in a variety of categories that drivers will love in 2026. Of the lists, the sports utility vehicle (SUV) and trucks stood out, with 2026 having some amazing models from some of the best carmakers in the business.
Here are the best SUVs and trucks for 2026.

The best part about the Trax is that it remains an affordable SUV for anyone who might want the extra space and horsepower without adding additional dollar signs to the ticket price.
Ford Maverick

Ever since Ford released the 2023 Maverick, this hybrid truck continues to outdo itself every year and remains in a price range where drivers can scale up as the truck does.
Honda CR-V
- Average MSRP: $28,988 to $35,988
The CR-V has come a long way in the last two decades, adding refinement and elegance to the interior. Car and Driver noted that the 2026 model has some of the most comfortable seats yet.
Honda Passport

Car and Driver highlighted how Honda struck a great balance with the 2026 Passport, falling somewhere in between off-road ability and on-road civility for the perfect SUV for any trip.
Hyundai Palisade Hybrid
- Average MSRP: $44,995 to $59,195
True, hybrid cars have become more cost-efficient as of late, however, with the Palisade Hybrid, Hyundai gives you more space and interior without upping the price tag.
Ford Ranger Raptor
- Average MSRP: $58,855 to $59,830
No other truck handles both the pavement and off-road terrain like a Ranger Raptor, which is perfect for those who love a truck in the wild, but still need to do the daily commute on the highway.
Ram 1500
- Average MSRP: $63,260 to $81,670
Got some heavy lifting or towing to do? You’ll definitely want the 2026 Ram 1500, which comes with max towing of 11,610 pounds and a max payload of 2360 pounds. Now that’s a haul.
Chevrolet/GMC Full-Size SUVs

While this covers a range of vehicles, Car and Driver pointed out the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Suburban and Yukon XL 2026 models for matching comfort with capability.

The electric Lucid Gravity is sure to pop eyes and drop jaws in 2026 with its 301 and 450 miles of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-rated range, paving the way for untraditionally powered SUVs to come.
Porsche Macan

Porsche has started to make inroads with electric vehicles, but the Macan stands out as the model that has “conventionally powered variants bring greater value and driver engagement,” according to Car and Driver.
