When thinking about credit cards, the first thing that comes to mind might be perks. Maybe it’s the cash-back offers or the frequent flyer miles, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The best cards offer a suite of benefits outside of their standard reward structure — and to take advantage of them, you just need to know where to look and what to buy.
Here are five things you may not have known you could charge on a credit card.
1. Rides
Go more places and get all the credit — Uber credits, that is! If you have a Platinum Card from American Express, one of the perks is getting up to $200 in Uber credits every year.
Feeling a little more decadent? Book a limousine or luxury travel service using your Citi Prestige card, which comes with $250 a year in credits for just that kind of snazzy ride.
2. A Day at the Museum
There are 200-plus museums in the United States that have deals when you use your Bank of America credit and debit cards, including:
- New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art
- The Philadelphia Museum of Art
- The Orlando Science Center
So when you are looking for something fun and educational for the whole family, make sure you pay the smart way.
3. Wine
Vino — red, white, orange — can be bought using your Visa Signature or Visa Infinite credit card and saves you some green in the process. These credit cards come with special perks at more than 50 wineries in Sonoma County, California. While they vary by vineyard, call ahead and see what your Visa can get you access to, which can include:
- Special wine and food pairings
- Complimentary tasting sessions
- Select bottles and crate pricing, including wine purchased same-day as tastings
Cheers to perks and a healthy credit score!
4. First-Class Service
Okay, so it’s no surprise that credit cards and air travel are the most famous, perky couple around. But did you know that you can rack up more than miles? With an American Express Platinum card you’ll receive complimentary access to the American Express Centurion Clubs.
These clubs provide a first-class experience while you are still on the ground, featuring:
- Fresh and local gourmet meals
- Family rooms and space for kids
- Bars with premium upgrades
- Spa access and complimentary massages
This upgrade is so classy, you might cancel your flight and spend the vacation in the lounge. But if you do decide to go on to your destination, keep in mind that your travel purchases with your American Express Platinum card take you far and wide. The card allows holders to “earn 5x points on flights purchased directly from airlines or American Express Travel on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year.”
5. VIP Event Access
Special events, such as concerts and professional sports, become extra special when you have Chase Sapphire in your entourage. The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve Card are loaded with perks, including purchasing tickets to special events using rewards points. We’re talking:
- NHL Hockey Games
- Madison Square Garden schedule events
- The Sundance Film Festival
- The Emmy Awards (yes, those Emmys)
See you on the red carpet!
