If you’re into cars, then you may have heard of Doug DeMuro. The YouTuber, writer and car enthusiast has amassed millions of subscribers, and has been featured in a variety of magazines discussing automobiles.

In a video on his YouTube channel, he discussed the car market and which vehicles he believes will appreciate in value over the next few years. So, if you’re in the market to buy a specialty car that returns its investment, check out what he had to say.

Affordable Cars

DeMuro started off with what he considers affordable cars, or ones in the lower range of collector cars.

BMW

BMW analog cars from the 1990s and 2000s have a nostalgia factor that DeMuro said attracts buyers in their 30s and 40s. These young people grew up dreaming about buying one of these vehicles when BMW was a very driver-focused brand and regarded as the poster car. Now, some of these young people have good jobs and the money to buy them, so he expects the value of these BMWs will only continue to rise:

  1. BMW E36 or E46 M3
  2. BMW M Coupe Z3 or Z4
  3. BMW E39 M5

Porsche

DeMuro also mentioned 981 and 991 Porsche models as more-affordable automobiles he thinks will rise in value. These cars, in his opinion, combine modern interiors, naturally aspirated engines and excellent performance, which make them the “dream Porsches” from their era:

  1. Porsche GT4
  2. Porsche Boxster Spyder
  3. Porsche 911 GT3
  4. Porsche 911 Targa

Collector Grade Cars

Now, onto the collector-grade cars that may, unfortunately, be out of a lot of people’s price range.

Lamborghini

According to DeMuro, older Lamborghinis like the Diablo and Murciélago are the ones to invest in. They combine modern performance with an old-school analogue feel, and had relatively low production runs (approximately 3,000 units for the Diablo and 4,000 for the Murciélago), which will make them rare over the next ten to fifteen years:

  1. Lamborghini Diablo
  2. Lamborghini Murciélago

Ferrari

For Ferrari, he discussed the Ferrari 430 Scuderia as an exciting car that is both fast and powerful, as well as the Ferrari 550 and 575 Maranello, which he said are currently undervalued in the U.S. market:

  1. Ferrari 430 Scuderia
  2. Ferrari 550 and 575M Maranello

Ford

Finally, the 2005-2006 Ford GT is the last car he specifically named as having the potential to rise in value. He pointed out that not only has its value increased beyond the initial Covid surge, but it also had a relatively low production run (only about 4,000 units), which will make it rare over time. The price for one of these cars has even started to surpass that of newer models:

  1. 2005-2006 Ford GT

The Bottom Line

While DeMuro said the cars on his list have a likelihood of appreciating in value, his general theory is that any specialty car from the 1990s and 2000s with a relatively low production run will become rarer over time and eventually increase in value. So, if you can’t buy any of the cars on his list, there might still be a value-appreciating car out there for you.
