Caleb Simpson, a popular TikToker who asks New Yorkers for tours of their homes, once asked “Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran for a tour of her $15 million penthouse. She told Simpson she owns her penthouse and doesn’t pay rent, but does pay $10,000 per month in maintenance fees.

Maintenance fees are a common arrangement in condo and co-op buildings. According to Street Easy, these fees include property taxes and building insurance — and if there’s any underlying mortgage on the building, this could be included, too. Utilities may also be included in the fees, as well as upkeep, staff salaries and any other additional services. How much someone pays usually depends on the size of their apartment and the floor level. In Corcoran’s case, her penthouse maintenance fees are on the higher end.

Corcoran’s History With the Luxe Apartment

Corcoran first saw the apartment in the early 1990s while working as a messenger and immediately fell in love. “I saw the view out of her door right there, and I said, ‘If you ever sell this, ma’am, would you sell it to me?'”

Twenty-six years later, the woman called Corcoran and sold it to her for $10 million. Corcoran spent an additional $5 million renovating the Upper East Side duplex. Corcoran’s home also features a greenhouse-turned-kitchen, a butler’s pantry, natural light, a beautiful outdoor terrace and gorgeous views of the New York City skyline.

“The real reason I bought the apartment is because of the terrace and the view,” Corcoran told Simpson.

In an interview on the Rachel Ray Show, Corcan said that she’s been a fan of Simpson for quite some time. Because her apartment “happened to be clean that day,” she invited him in for a tour. Corcoran also said she wanted to show it off to prove hard work pays.

“I felt I deserved it, I worked for it, and I also wanted to prove that dreams could come true. I worked for all those years wanting that apartment and I finally got it,” Corcoran explained.
