According to The Knot’s 2024 Jewelry and Engagement study, the average cost of an engagement ring in the United States is $5,200, slightly less than the average in previous years. The average price of engagement rings varies by location, with couples in the Northeast spending the most and couples in the Midwest spending the least.

Of course, there are always wealthy celebrities and royalty helping to skew the average with some iconic (and seriously expensive) engagement rings that have made headlines. Below are five of the most famous and most expensive celebrity engagement rings, including a recent addition from 2025.

Also here is the richest celebrity in each state.

Taylor Swift’s 8-Carat Old Mine Diamond Ring

  • Estimated value: $500,000

Starting with the engagement ring that has caused the most buzz lately, Taylor Swift’s 8-carat old mine-cut diamond from Travis Kelce features hand engraving. According to Vogue, Kelce worked closely with designer Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to create a one-of-a-kind custom ring. USA Today estimated the diamond to be between seven and nine carats and the value of the ring to be $250,000 to $500,000.

Jennifer Lopez’s 8.5-Carat Green Diamond Ring

  • Estimated value: $5 million

Jennifer Lopez has received a couple of engagement rings throughout her lifetime, but People estimated that her 8.5-carat green diamond engagement ring from Ben Affleck is one of the rarest, with a valuation of $5 million. The couple was previously engaged in 2002. At that time, Affleck proposed with a 6-carat pink diamond.

Georgina Rodriguez’s 37-Carat Diamond Ring

  • Estimated value: $3 million

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo recently proposed to Georgina Rodriguez with a ring People reported holds a 37-carat diamond worth approximately $3 million. Vogue reported that the ring features an oval-cut, flawless white diamond set in platinum.

Elizabeth Taylor’s 69-Carat Taylor-Burton Diamond

  • Estimated value: $5 million

While not an engagement ring, Elizabeth Taylor’s spectacular Taylor-Burton diamond deserves a place on this list. Her husband at the time, Richard Burton, famously showered her with jewelry. In fact, instead of an engagement ring, The Jewellery Editor reported that he presented her with a 23.44-carat emerald and diamond platinum brooch, which she wore on their wedding day.

After their marriage, Burton bid on a spectacular 69.42-carat pear-shaped diamond at auction. The Antique Jewelry University reported that while he initially lost the bid to Cartier, he was eventually able to purchase it for over $1 million, rename it the Taylor-Burton diamond and gift it to his wife. Taylor sold it after their divorce in 1978 for approximately $5 million, according to Natural Diamonds.

Princess Diana’s 12-Carat Sapphire Ring

  • Estimated value: $520,000

Princess Diana’s stunning blue sapphire engagement ring is well-known today, but many people don’t know that at the time, her choice caused controversy among the royal family, as reported in Brides.com. That’s because Princess Diana selected her ring from a Garrard’s jewelry catalogue, meaning anyone with the means could purchase the same ring. This was a departure from royal tradition, which usually favored bespoke, custom pieces. After her passing, Prince William acquired the ring, which he used to propose to his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, now Princess Catherine. The estimated value of the ring is $520,000, according to Brides.com.
