GOBankingRates got in touch with Ryan Salata, marketing director of Specialty Auto Parts USA, Inc., to find four sports cars that work for boomers on a budget in 2026.
Mazda MX-5 Miata
- Average used price: $26,377
Salata dubbed the Mazda MX-5 Miata a friendly little roadster, easy for older drivers to get in and out of. While the average used price is $26,377, some used models from 2019 to 2021 sometimes go for under $20,000.
“Its sturdy nature makes the repair costs low as well, which is perfect for those with fixed budgets,” Salata explained. “It’s also a sensible choice with parts that run cheap and fuel economy over 30 miles per gallon.”
Toyota GR86
- Average used price: $30,367
Salata highlighted that naturally aspirated engines, like the ones found under the hood of a Toyota GR86, typically do not come with turbo problems that can lead to the pricey repairs.
“The rear seats fold to increase utility. Insurance is cheaper than with more powerful cars, and Toyota reliability boosts enjoyment over repairs,” Salata added. Plus, used GR86s from 2022 to 2023 still feel new while often costing less than $30,000, a great price for retirees on a fixed budget.
Ford Mustang EcoBoost
- Average used price: $16,490
According to Salata, the Ford Mustang EcoBoost is a classic that helps retired drivers cover long distances better than a lot of cars out there on the road.
“Expect performance and fuel economy that’s a step up from the Miata or GR86, and a giant aftermarket to support modifications as well as parts and service,” Salata said.
Chevrolet Camaro 2.0T
- Average used price: $25,290
Though the Chevrolet Camaro 2.0T has similar value to the Ford Mustang EcoBoost, Salata explained that it comes with a different ambience which many retirees will enjoy, including features like cozy seating and adequate trunk space.
“The 275-horsepower four-banger offers solid daily-driving performance without the expensive insurance that comes with V8s,” Salata shared, saving retirees money on their vehicle in numerous ways.
