It’s no secret that Aldi’s is a great place to shop when you’re on a budget. The grocery store’s motto is to provide great quality items at everyday low prices, something they’ve been striving to do for the past 40 years.
But if you’re a new Aldi shopper and aren’t sure what to shop for on a tight budget, you’re in luck. GOBankingRates spoke with Aldi shoppers and budgeting experts about their top Aldi picks for under $10. Here’s what they suggested.
GOYA Coconut Milk
- Price: $2.15
A container of GOYA Coconut Milk costs more than $3 at Walmart.
Cooper described it: “This unsweetened milk is perfect for adding coconut flavor into your dishes with no gums, thickener or stabilizer.”
LaCroix Sparkling Flavored Water
- Price: $6.15
Not everyone enjoys drinking plain water, so sparkling flavored water is a solid alternative if you’re trying to stay hydrated. A 12-pack of LaCroix Limoncello Sparkling Flavored Water goes for well under $10 and is more affordable at Aldi than at other retailers.
“LaCroix Sparkling Flavored Water is a refreshing and healthy beverage with zero calories, zero sweeteners and zero sodium,” Cooper said. “Besides, it is vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO and Whole30 approved.”
If you don’t like limoncello, Aldi has flavors such as key lime, orange and razz-cranberry.
Organic Cage Free Brown Eggs
- Price: $7.05
Eggs have skyrocketed in price over the past few months, but you can get a dozen Organic Cage Free Brown Eggs at Aldi for cheaper than at most other places. Walmart sells them for almost $2 more.
Cooper said, “Organic egg, rich in protein, is perfect for your lunch, salad and post-workout meal.”
Barissimo Coffee
- Price: $5.39
For all of you coffee lovers out there, Barissimo Breakfast Blend Ground Coffee is a great deal at Aldi.
“The Barissimo coffee is an excellent deal. It comes in a wide variety of fun flavors and also classic flavors like French roast, breakfast blend and more,” said Kendra Hagerman, an avid Aldi shopper, budgeting expert and CEO of Kendra Found It. “I personally love the breakfast blend; and, at such an affordable price per cup, I get to start my day by feeling like I’m saving some major money.”
Millville Cereal
- Price: $2.95
For many busy families, cereal’s a go-to breakfast option, but you don’t need to spend $5 or more on a box of cereal when you can get Aldi’s own Millville Cereal for much less. A box of Millville Honey Nut Crispy Oats, for example, costs several dollars less than name brands.
“Rumor has it that Millville cereal is produced at the same manufacturing plants and with the same ingredients as the more expensive name-brand cereals. The only difference is that you pay substantially less,” said Hope Ware, a frugality expert, frequent Aldi shopper and owner of Under the Median.
“We’ve been happy — and, more importantly, the kids have been happy — with every kind we’ve tried,” she continued. “The flavor and texture are both great, and sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between Millville and [the] name brand.”
Bananas
- Price: 16 cents each
Looking to get some fruit in your diet? Check out Aldi’s selection of budget-friendly produce — particularly the bananas.
“Bananas from Aldi are always at least 10 cents less per pound than traditional grocery stores,” Ware said. “Yet, they are always firm, ripe and great quality. Plus, they are name-brand bananas.”
Mama Cozzi’s Pizza Kitchen Cheese Pizza
- Price: $3.55
Who doesn’t love a frozen pizza? It is quick, easy to make and filling. At just $3.55, Mama Cozzi’s Pizza Kitchen Original Thin Crust Cheese Pizza is a steal.
“Aldi has a wide variety of frozen pizzas, but the more toppings and ingredients, the more expensive they are,” Hagerman said. “Save money by buying a basic cheese or pepperoni pizza and adding your own favorite ingredients before it goes in the oven.”
Casa Mamita Mild Salsa
- Price: $1.99
“Salsa is an essential ingredient in so many quick, easy, frugal recipes,” Ware said. “At Aldi, I can get salsa for 30% to 40% less than I’d pay for the name-brand product.”
A jar of Casa Mamita Mild Salsa costs less than $2 and lasts a long time in the fridge. You can also get other types — e.g., chunky salsa, restaurant-style salsa or pineapple salsa — at reasonable prices.
Ware added, “The flavor is amazing, the texture is thick and the hotness levels are true to what is printed on the label. I use Aldi’s salsa in a number of different ways every single week.”
Avocados
- Price: 99 cents each
Avocados are nutritious, delicious and surprisingly affordable at Aldi.
“I save so much money shopping at Aldi, and as a financial coach, I advise my clients to shop there as well,” said Debra Jacobs, an Aldi shopper and budgeting expert at Money Smart for Life.
She said avocados can easily cost $1 to $2 at grocery stores such as Whole Foods.
