Have you noticed higher prices at your local coffee shop recently? If so, it’s not your imagination. Coffee prices are rising, with several coffee manufacturers citing soaring prices for coffee beans brought on by bad weather and climate conditions in parts of Western Africa and Southeast Asia.Â
A recent study by Toast analyzed regular coffee, cold brew and latte prices nationwide for the first quarter of 2024. Overall, California, Alaska and Hawaii consistently rank among the most expensive states for coffee drinks, while midwestern states are the cheapest.
Residents of Nebraska pay the least for regular coffee at $2.12, while Hawaiians pay $4.98 — a 135% price difference. The average price nationwide for regular coffee is $3.08.
Cold brew coffee is cheapest in West Virginia, with an average price of $4.61. Hawaii ranks as the state with the most expensive cold brew coffee at $6.29. The nationwide average for a cold brew cuppa joe is $5.14.
If you’re a latte lover, Kansas is the place to be, with lattes averaging $5.09. Hawaii wins the award for most expensive again, where lattes average $6.69. The nationwide average for lattes is $5.46.Â
