Fall is here, which means one thing: The holidays are just around the corner. It’s still a bit early for stores to release Black Friday and other holiday sales, but last year’s deals can be a good indicator of what’s to come in 2024.
It’s never too early to start planning your holiday sale strategy, to ensure you stretch your budget to the max. Here’s a look at the 13 best holiday sales from 2023, so you can get an idea of what might be in store for this year.
Barnes and Noble
The bookseller had a buy one, get one 50% off sale on hundreds of books. Additionally, Barnes and Noble premium members received 40% off hundreds of books.
At Home
Savings of up to 60% off was offered at this home store, including items like Christmas trees and inflatables. Plus, all Christmas pillows, ornaments and Christmas stockings were buy one, get one 50% off.
Dollar General
Last year, the discount store had “Deal Days,” featuring discounts like buy one, get one 75% off select toys and other buy one, get one offers. On Thanksgiving Day, artificial trees, lights, tree toppers, tree skirts and ornaments were 50% off.
Home Depot
Shoppers were able to score several special buys on items like Christmas trees, inflatables and other Christmas décor, offering savings of more than 50%. Home Depot also offered many in-store deals on both holiday items and home improvement products, as well as up to $800 off select kitchen appliances.
Kohl’s
This is one store known for offering generous discounts, and Kohl’s lived up to its reputation last year. Shoppers earned $10 in Kohl’s cash for every $50 spent in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Beyond that, customers received an extra 15% off all purchases — exclusions applied — from several days before Thanksgiving through Black Friday.
Lowe’s
Those willing to brave Black Friday crowds at Lowe’s were rewarded with a variety of one-day-only in-store doorbusters on everything from holiday décor to appliances and home improvement items.
Macy’s
The iconic department store chain didn’t disappoint last year, offering special discounts from the week leading up to Black Friday through the weekend after. Deals were offered on certain items in just about every department, so keep a look out for anything specific you have in mind.
Nordstrom Rack
Starting on Black Friday and running for several days after, Nordstrom Rack took an extra 40% off clearance items online and in stores.
Petco
During a four-day sale surrounding Black Friday, Petco offered deep discounts on everything from pet food, treats and accessories to even some pets themselves.
Target
Deals on specific items in a variety of categories were offered on Black Friday through Saturday at Target. Several sale items also came with a bonus Target gift card, providing twice the opportunity to save.
Ulta
In the week leading up to Black Friday, Ulta offered up to 50% off on more than 275 holiday deals.
Walmart
Known for its Black Friday deals, Walmart didn’t disappoint in 2023 with major savings on select items throughout the week. This included electronics, toys, clothing and more.
Wayfair
A major Black Friday destination, Wayfair offered up to 80% off items. Some of these deals included up to 80% off area rugs, up to 70% off mattresses, up to 65% off living room seating and bedroom furniture, and up to 60% off lighting and bathroom vanities.
