Holiday shopping can be stressful, but not when you have a buddy by your side. This year, consider checking off all the items on your list using ChatGPT as your go-to expert for finding the best deals, discounts and places to shop.

As an experiment, GOBankingRates asked this artificial intelligence bot to find the best retail stores for holiday shopping. Remember, it’s always best to consult a human expert when it comes to your financial wellbeing, not just rely on AI.

With that in mind, here is what ChatGPT found for the best retail stores to do your holiday shopping this year.

1. Walmart

ChatGPT noted that Walmart announced “large early-holiday deals on electronics, toys, home items, etc., offering ‘deep savings’ across categories.”

The AI found Walmart was best for “general gift-shopping when you want a broad product range + value + convenience.” ChatGPT also suggested shoppers look early for “event” deals (e.g., launch dates for holiday specials) so they don’t miss the best prices.

2. Target

According to ChatGPT, Target offers strong clearance/holiday events, but also makes it easy to get what you ordered with curbside and pickup options.

Target, based on the AI’s findings, is best for shoppers who want a store that’s a bit more curated than the ultra-massive general retailer, and who value convenience and faster pickup. “Stack deals with loyalty/coupon programs (Target Circle, etc.) when available, to enhance savings,” ChatGPT offered as shopping advice.

3. Best Buy

“Best Buy explicitly promotes convenient services for the holiday season: curbside pickup, same-day/next-day delivery and alternate pickup locations,” wrote ChatGPT, adding that the retailer is known for strong tech gifts, especially where timely delivery and stock matter.

If you’re buying higher-value gifts (electronics, appliances, gadgets) and want strong service and convenience, ChatGPT found Best Buy is a shopper’s best bet, adding, “For items in demand (gaming consoles, popular gadgets), place your order early and choose pickup if stock or delivery are constrained.”

4. Kohl’s

ChatGPT found Kohl’s is one of the best retailers offering free curbside or pickup options during holiday periods, as well as being “known for frequent promo events (extra % off, Kohl’s Cash, etc.) which can amplify savings.”

Where ChatGPT found Kohl’s really shines is when it comes to mid-range gifts (home goods, apparel and kitchen gadgets), where shoppers “…can leverage coupons + in-store/curbside convenience. Use the retailer’s coupon/promotional cycles to time bigger purchases (e.g., when extra 15 to 20% off is available).”

5. Nordstrom

Customer service, loyalty perks and convenient pickup/curbside are just a few of the reasons Nordstrom made ChatGPT’s list.

“For shoppers seeking higher-end gifts with premium packaging, service and flexible returns, Nordstrom is a great choice,” ChatGPT explained. “Gifts where presentation, brand/quality and luxury feel matter (designer fashion, upscale beauty, home decor), [shoppers should] sign up for membership/alerts to access best savings.”
