What do you always try to buy after Halloween? More to the point, what’s worth spending your money on for the best possible deal when Halloween is over?
Even if you think you know the answer, you might be missing out on items that have steep savings. GOBankingRates spoke to personal finance expert Erika Kullberg and Bella Gerard, shopping and trend advisor at Rakuten, to get their top shopping recommendations.
Keep reading for the three items to shop right after Halloween for the biggest deals.
Candy
It’s not surprising to see candy top the list as the top item to shop for after Halloween. Typically, unsold Halloween candy is marked down significantly at grocery stores and big-box retailers post-spooky season.
“Retailers like Target and CVS usually offer some hefty markdowns on the trick or treat classics they stocked up on in anticipation of October 31,” Gerard said.
The sales aren’t limited to drugstores and retailers, however. Gerard recommended shoppers swing by specialty candy shops, like Dylan’s Candy Bar, which will likely also have candy sales. Much like larger chains, specialty stores are actively working to clear out seasonal releases and make room for holiday inventory.
Costumes
If certain Halloween costumes were out of your price range this year, consider using the days after Halloween to shop for these ensembles. According to Kullberg, shoppers should be able to score major discounts.
“Stores heavily mark them down, sometimes by 50% to 75%,” she said.
What if you don’t plan to wear a costume during Halloween 2025? Consider shopping for costumes that can be worn during dress-up or themed parties throughout the year.
Decorations
Shoppers who love to decorate during Halloween won’t want to miss shopping massive savings on all sorts of indoor and outdoor Halloween decor. Buying these items now means avoiding paying full price next year.
“Check out retailers like Michaels and Lowe’s for markdowns on things like spooky skeletons, spider webs and other festive decor,” Gerard recommended. “These items are often on sale as stores transition to new holiday inventory.”
Just how much can shoppers expect to save on Halloween decorations? According to Kullberg, items like lights, inflatables and themed decorations can be up to 80% off.
