Kohl’s department stores have an incredible array of holiday gifts, décor and more. Shoppers can get virtually everything they need to outfit their entire home for the winter holidays. But should they?
The answer is: Maybe! Here are some items worth the splurge, others that shoppers may settle for if nothing better catches their eye, and others that savvy shoppers definitely want to skip.
Splurge: St. Nicholas Square LED Greenery Mailbox Décor
You don’t actually need garland to drape over your mailbox this holiday season. But why not give your postal carrier a smile? Splurge on this mailbox greenery with LED lights from St. Nicholas Square for less than $20 with a Kohl’s coupon.
Splurge: Mr. Christmas Nostalgic Ceramic Christmas Tree Table Décor
Many Gen Xers remember their boomer parents placing this lighted ceramic Christmas tree in the windowsill, on the table or on the mantel — a sure sign Santa would be visiting soon! It’s nearly $50, but sharing a beloved holiday tradition with future generations is priceless. The only thing better would be dusting off the original from your parent’s basement or attic.
Settle For: St. Nicholas Square Large Red LED Lantern Christmas Table Décor
This large red LED lantern from St. Nicholas Square might seem like a deal at $24 (depending on coupons), reduced from its full price of $50. But you can get two lanterns for $26.99 on Amazon featuring a rustic brushed bronze finish. The Amazon lanterns from the Yongmao store are shorter and smaller, so if you’re looking for a larger centerpiece, settle for spending a little more at Kohl’s. Of course, for those with a percent-off coupon to save 15% to 40%, the Kohl’s lantern is the better value.
Settle For: St. Nicholas Square 11 ft. Inflatable LED Santa Christmas Decoration
This inflatable Santa towers at 11 feet tall, and retails for $90 regularly. Grab him at the sale price of $54 and then stack savings with a percent-off coupon. Of course, he isn’t Home Depot’s 20-foot towering LED Santa Christmas Inflatable, regularly $299 and on sale for $199. But the Kohl’s version is less than half the price and could make the perfect addition to your lawn display while leaving extra cash to add these adorable penguins from HOMCOM.
Skip: Wreaths
Kohl’s has an assortment of artificial holiday wreaths online ranging in price from $20 to more than $100, and even up to $500 for 42-inch designs for over the fireplace. But wreaths are affordable enough that it’s cost-effective to purchase a real wreath and replace it each season. The local firehouse, Boy Scout troop or elementary school may sell wreaths as a fundraiser, so you can make a difference in your community while adorning your front door with natural décor.
Skip: National Tree Company Christmas Trees
It’s often risky buying a Christmas tree online. Everything from the height to the width and fullness (or even how sturdy it is) can be misrepresented. It’s also hard to tell if the tree has enough lights unless you can see it fully illuminated. National Tree Company Christmas trees like this one, in particular, received mixed reviews at Kohls.com. For those opting for an artificial tree this year, it’s best to make a purchase where you can view many different models, all set up and lighted, before making your choice.
