The holidays are a time to splurge a little, especially when it comes to shopping at Costco. When shoppers head into that big, gleaming store during the holiday season, it’s easy to go overboard. After all, whenever they turn a corner, customers see all types of festive items, from decorations to snacks, that are tempting to purchase.

This is reflected in Costco’s 2024 Q4 earnings report, which shows higher earnings and sales than last year. However, not all Costco buys are worth the price. Some items that might seem like a great holiday addition don’t quite live up to the hype.

To help shoppers save money this holiday season, here is a list of Costco items that seem like little holiday luxuries but aren’t worth the price.

Fortessa Jupiter 13 oz Tumbler

It might be tempting to purchase new glassware for the holidays, especially for customers who entertain a lot. This pack of eight glass cups comes in both green and red. These glasses have several glowing reviews, but others say the glassware wasn’t as it appeared in the photos online. Some said they expected the color to be different.

Hand Crafted All Occasion & Holiday Greeting Cards

Based on the reviews of this product, it seems some Costco customers enjoy purchasing this box of 40 greeting cards every year. It contains cards to use for several occasions throughout the year. Unfortunately, many recent reviews say this version isn’t as good as in previous years. Reviewers mention the cards aren’t well-made, with glue marks and missing pieces. For that reason, customers should pass on these.

Sugarfina Vice Cafe Candy Bento Box

Sugarfina is known as a luxury candy brand, but this candy bento box might not be worth the type. While some reviewers say the candy is great quality, others mentioned the box was “underwhelming,” especially for such a high price. Overall, these earned a 4.2 stars out of 5 among reviewers.

Heaton Pecans Roasted & Salted Pecans Tin

Holidays are a time to send treats to loved ones. Although these roasted and salted pecans sound delectable, they are quite pricey. Additionally, some commenters had negative opinions about the taste. Others mentioned the pecans didn’t weigh as much as the manufacturer said.

Fresh 43″ Mantel Garland

It’s definitely a nice treat to have a genuine, fresh garland to adorn a cozy winter fireplace. However, some reviews on this particular product indicate it’s not as good of a value as it seems. One reviewer said it was “not nearly as lush as the photo.” Others said it was not typical Costco quality.

Waterford Crystal Snowflake 2024 Ornament

These ornaments have 4.4 stars out of 5 reviews; however, one of the reviewers said the quality might not resemble cut crystal as customers would typically expect from Waterford. The reviewer said that the ornament looked like it was created in a mold versus cut, so this might be one small luxury item to pass on.
