Waiting too long to book an international trip can mean higher prices and fewer options. And travel packages aren’t just for all-inclusive resorts — they can also provide affordable, immersive experiences that take travelers beyond major cities.
“Package trips generally include accommodations, an expertly crafted itinerary, activities or guided experiences, in-destination transportation and some meals,” Hilary Matson, CEO of Yugen Earthside, explained. “Choosing a package created by a local can save travelers a ton of time — and time is money.”
Here are some of the most affordable international travel packages to consider.
Cultural Tours in Asia
Guided tours in countries like India, Vietnam and Nepal can be a budget-friendly way to explore history, cuisine and daily life. These packages often cover transportation, accommodations and curated experiences at temples, ancient cities and bustling markets.

Budget-Friendly Europe Trips
While backpacking probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind in terms of packages, there are affordable options that take the hassle out of planning while keeping costs low. These trips often include budget-friendly accommodations, transportation between cities and curated activities, making them a great compromise between luxury tours and fully DIY backpacking.
Some, like this eight-day trip through three countries from less than $1,000 per person, won’t include flights from and to the U.S., but it does include Interrail and Eurail passes to cover all of the rail journeys during the trip.
Plus, summer tourism doesn’t kick in for Southern Europe until around June, so booking a last-minute package trip to somewhere like Greece, Portugal or Spain now will be much cheaper that waiting till the height of summer.
Coastal Getaways in Latin America
Affordable beach destinations in Mexico, Costa Rica and Belize offer travel packages that include things like eco-lodges, snorkeling excursions and guided tours of ancient ruins. Traveling in the shoulder season between the dry and rainy seasons, generally late April to early June, can mean crowds are smaller and budgets can be stretched further.
Safari and Wildlife Adventures
Africa offers budget-friendly safari packages that can include game drives, cultural visits and local food experiences. Kenya and Tanzania have options that provide wildlife encounters without the luxury price tag, like this 10-day Kenya trip which includes a six-day safari, for less than $900 per person.
Trips Tied to Events and Holidays
Travel packages centered on major events or peak seasons tend to get significantly more expensive the longer travelers wait. Steve Schwab, CEO of Casago, advises booking trips involving a specific event sooner rather than later.
“Any kind of travel or travel package is going to become more expensive the closer it gets to the date, but when big events or holidays are involved, those price increases can be exponentially higher,” he said.
Whether it’s Carnival in Brazil, Oktoberfest in Germany or cherry blossom season in Japan, booking early is often the best way to lock in a deal.
