Jeannette Kaplun: Hi, I’m Jeannette Kaplun. When it comes to taxes, we all hope for a refund. Any tax refund you get is better than nothing at all. You can splurge and spend it mindlessly, or you can be smart about it.
If you have credit card debt, just by looking at how much interest you end up paying, you’re much better off just putting that refund to good use and paying off your debt.
If your state has a prepaid college fund and you have kids, invest in your child’s education and put that money toward college. With the way higher education costs are spiraling, it will be a smart investment.
Another great way to invest your refund is to open a retirement account, such as a Roth IRA. Start saving while you’re young and it will give you peace of mind as you get older.
Last but not least, invest in yourself. Use the money to take better care of yourself. Take that online course you need to jump start your career. Invest in your blog and get a professional head shot — if you need one. Or hire a business coach, if you want one.
By the way, remember that H&R Block has over 9,000 bilingual professionals to help you truly understand what you need to know about your taxes. I’m Jeannette Kaplun, and for more information, remember to log on to www.hispanaglobal.net.
