Good news for workers: Wages across the country have risen at a rate that has outpaced inflation over the last 12 months. According to the latest Consumer Price Index report, costs have risen 4.0% over the past year, while the June 2023 ADP Pay Insights report found that wages have increased by 4.8% or more in all 50 states.
Some states, however, have seen significantly higher wage increases than others. This is correlated to the types of industries that tend to be concentrated in these states.
“On a state-by-state level, Wyoming saw strong wage gains in industries like natural resources and mining, financial activities and manufacturing,” said Liv Wang, senior data scientist at the ADP Research Institute. “In Montana, industries leading wage growth included financial activities, leisure and hospitality, and trade, transportation and utilities. Finally, Oregon industries that had high pay growth included education and health services, and leisure and hospitality.”
