Dollar Tree has become a shopping staple for many families in the United States. Even as the company announced plans to close stores in recent months, shoppers continue to rely on Dollar Tree for value on items that are sometimes difficult to find in other places.

Dollar Tree, which also owns Family Dollar, has struggled to find workers and maintain safe working conditions. According to CNN, in addition to employees at Dollar Tree complaining about unsafe conditions, ” … OSHA last year criticized the company for a ‘continued disregard for human safety’ that suggests the ‘company thinks profits matter more than people.'”

If you need to make money and are thinking about taking a job at a Dollar Tree near you, it may be helpful to know that many employees have complained about low wages. According to The List, less than 40% of Dollar Tree employees think they are fairly paid. In addition, they have a D grade for compensation, which puts them in the bottom 10% of similarly sized companies in the U.S.

What Is the Pay Rate at Dollar Tree?

However, according to the data, the pay may not be that far off from similar stores.

According to Indeed, here are some average wages for Dollar Tree:

  • Stocking associate: $11.49 per hour
  • Cashier: $10.90 per hour

Similar data is reported by Payscale:

  • Cashier: $9 per hour
  • Stocker: $10 per hour

If you look at competitors, specifically Dollar General, the pay is in the same ballpark. According to Indeed, the pay at Dollar General is $10.63 per hour for cashiers and $8.56 per hour for sales associates. Payscale reports $10 per hour for both positions.

However, it can be helpful to put these wages into perspective. While the wages Dollar Tree pays are higher than the minimum wage in many states, it still is far below the pay needed to live comfortably in 50 major U.S. cities.
