Traveling can be very expensive and stressful, which is why it helps to research tips and tricks to ease the process. If you’re planning on flying with Delta Airlines, there are a few tips for saving money and getting a better experience you likely don’t know about.

What are tips that only Delta insiders know about

You Can Preorder Your Special Meal Choices

“You can preorder your special meal choices on Delta flights,” shared Tara Furiani, founder of Not the HR Lady. “This isn’t just for those with dietary restrictions because you can also request specific meals like low-fat or low-cholesterol options.”

According to Delta’s website, meal preordering is available for Delta Premium Select customers. Preordering your meals will ensure that you get the food that suits your preference or mood, which can be beneficial on those long flights. You also don’t want to be stuck with a meal that you have no craving for.

Upgrading Flights Is Cheaper Than Buying Them

To save money on your next trip, you can upgrade flights cheaper than buying them, according to Benjamin Fields, a travel agency consultant.

“When I fly Delta One, I purchase Main Cabin tickets. With Platinum Medallion I’m automatically upgraded at ticket purchase to Comfort+, and then do a paid upgrade to Delta One if the price is great,” Fields said.

Fields said that he has flown long distances, including from Atlanta to London, on Delta One for $500 for a one-way leg.

Delta Vacations Has Unexpected Benefits

“Booking a flight and hotel package through Delta Vacations can yield unexpected benefits,” Furiani said. “These packages often come with bonus SkyMiles, complimentary transfers and sometimes even free hotel nights.”

This is a great way to maximize value and save money on your next excursion. Bonus miles can go a long way when it comes to future travel plans as well.

Your Family Can Sit Together

“When traveling with family, Delta offers the ability to ensure that family members sit together without having to pay for advanced seat selection,” Furiani said. “You can call Delta directly after booking your tickets to make these arrangements, making the travel experience smoother and less stressful.”

You can save money and ensure that your family stays close on your next flight so that you have one less thing to stress about.

You Can Pause Your Medallion Status

According to Delta’s website, Medallion Status allows you to “fly more comfortably, move to the front of the line, enjoy waived fees and other elite benefits that only Delta offers.” Delta SkyMiles members can earn Medallion Status by flying with Delta, booking trips through Delta vacations and more, per the company’s website.

“If you’ve experienced a life event that temporarily affected your ability to travel and maintain your Medallion Status, Delta offers a ‘Reclaim My Status’ program,” Furiani said. “You can apply to have your status reinstated after you return to traveling, which is especially helpful for frequent travelers facing unforeseen circumstances.”
