If you think back to your favorite family car growing up or the ride you were most proud to own, you may remember the performance or special features. Maybe the car had something quirky that made you appreciate it.
Sometimes cars can come into the market with a thud and turn out to be worth much money more later on. That’s definitely the case with a few vintage cars that were once considered worthless and are worth investing in now.
Here’s a look at six of those, including a few vintage cars you may never have heard of before.
1965 Ford Falcon
Sometimes people long for simpler days. Perhaps the case with the 1965 Falcon. This wasn’t the most spectacular car back in 1965. In fact, it was rather simple and straightforward.
Flash forward to today and the Falcon is a vintage car worth owning. That’s because there are buyers who want to avoid today’s complicated tech-heavy cars and have a simple taste of the 1960s.
1980s Buick Grand National
Perhaps you remember your favorite car from the 1980s. It may not have been the Buick Grand National, but it’s become more popular these days at auctions and shows.
“Once upon a time, people hated the 1980s Buick Grand National because of its size, although many people think a bit more positively about it now,” according to the Boomer Insight. “Many of them are impressed by its turbocharged V6 and impressive performance.”
1991 GMC Syclone
You may not have heard of this car, but it’s increased in value in recent years. According to Hot Cars, GMC built less than 3,000 units of the Syclone in 1991.
“The Syclone pioneered big horsepower and performance in the truck space, combining the best of a hotrod and a pickup in a revolutionary way,” also according to Hot Cars. “A decade ago, a well-maintained Syclone went for less than $20,000. However, the value has since doubled to nearly $40,000 on average, with Concours-condition models fetching well over $50,000.”
1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R
This vintage ride also made Hot Car’s list of American cars that were worthless a decade ago but they’re worth a fortune today.
This is the race-ready Mustang version of the SVT Cobra. It’s also highly coveted and could fetch you more than $150,000.
1949-1953 Triumph Mayflower
Speaking of cars you’ve probably never heard about, the Triumph Mayflower had a rocky start. Per Auto Travel World, the Mayflower was introduced as a luxury small car for the American market, but missed the mark.
It was called ugly and didn’t have the best engine. But it’s become somewhat of a collector’s item thanks to its history and unique charm.
1954-1962 Nash Metropolitan
According to Auto Travel World, the Nash Metropolitan was among the first cars marketed toward women. It was meant to be a second family car.
Thanks to bad performance and handling, this was pretty much a flop. In recent years, though, this vintage car has found a fan base and collectors are willing to pay top dollar for it.
