People in the market for a truck in 2025 may want to consider buying used. Many money experts, including Dave Ramsey, advocate for buying used over new when it comes to vehicles, noting that used cars are less expensive and do not lose their value as quickly.
Trucks are no exception, whether a person is looking for a compact truck that is fuel-efficient and budget-friendly or a full-size monster that can tow a ton.
Here are six used trucks to consider buying in 2025 because of their versatility, reliability and overall value.
Nissan Titan
According to U.S. News and World Report, the 2019 Nissan Titan is one of the most reliable used trucks. It has a J.D. Power Score of 89 out of 100 and comes standard with a V8 engine.
The full-size pickup’s last production year was 2024. It had been manufactured at the carmaker’s assembly plant in Canton, Mississippi, since 2003.
According to CarGurus, the average price of a used Titan is $27,852.
Ford F-150
Robust and reliable, the Ford F-150 often ranks among the bestselling trucks in America.
As with any used vehicle, specific years may be more desirable than others. For instance, certain models of the 2014 Ford F-150 were subject to a recall due to intermittent failure of the transmission’s output shaft speed sensor. Most other years, however, continue to be touted for their longevity and versatility.
Recent model years also have state-of-the-art technology and improved safety features. The average price of a used model is $30,760, per CarGurus.
Ford Ranger
Another front-runner from the century-old carmaker is the Ford Ranger. The truck has good towing and payload capacity, making it a true workhorse for its size.
As reported by Kelley Blue Book, a 2021 model will cost around a minimum of $21,000 and has a consumer rating of 4.4.
Dodge Ram 1500
The full-size Dodge Ram 1500 is another truck that may be worth the buy in 2025. Even older models tend to stand the test of time for durability, comfort and value.
Car and Driver gave the 2019 version a perfect 10 rating, noting that it has second-to-none ride quality.
Kelley Blue Book has the 2019 used Dodge Ram 1500 starting at about $23,000.
Toyota Tacoma
In 2024, Kelley Blue Book named the Toyota Tacoma its best midsize truck of the year, and for good reason. With a 4.0 consumer rating and a 4.8 expert rating, the truck is a favorite across the board.
It isn’t just the 2024 model, either. Prior models have also ranked high for their durability and capability, making the Tacoma a great choice for a used truck in 2025.
The average price of a used Toyota Tacoma is $30,704, per CarGurus.
Chevrolet Silverado
Named by CarMax as one of the top 10 best used pickup trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado has a 4.4 owner rating. It is known as a powerful, reliable full-size truck.
Debuting as a trim line for the Chevy C/K Series pickup truck in 1975, the Silverado has stood the test of time. In 1999, the name was given to a new generation of trucks. Over the last quarter century, the truck has continued to impress and retained its value, making it a smart buy.
CarGurus puts the average priced of a used one at $31,166.
