There’s no time like the present to make changes to your budget for the better. Financial influencer Kate Kaden consistently offers actionable money-saving tips on her YouTube channel. Kaden specializes in giving fresh tips on how to save money day-to-day.

Here are her four tips to help you spend less this spring.

Romanticize Frugal Life

“Frugal” is often synonymous with cheap, but Kaden stressed in her video “4 PRACTICAL Tips to LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS This Spring 2025” that it’s all about how you frame your life.

“You don’t have to be skimping on everything to save money; instead, it’s about noticing the small, free things that make you happy,” she said. She suggested things like going outside and talking with people you love to remind you that some of the best things in life don’t cost a thing.

Learn To Cook Food You Love

For those who aren’t skilled at cooking, learning how to may be intimidating or frustrating. Kaden recommended focusing on recipes for meals that you’ll love to get you more excited about learning. She said it’s totally fine to start with simple recipes and not make it overly complicated. Then, make sure to cook large portions so you can make the meals stretch for days, or even an entire week.

Create Joyful Rituals

In line with romanticizing frugal life, it’s important to create routines that keep you looking forward to the days ahead. “I like to burn candles,” Kaden suggested. “I like that soft lighting at night. If you have little twinkle lights or candles, you can switch the big bright lights down to like evening time lights. That feels so good.”

Kaden said these rituals don’t have to cost anything, and can help you reset what’s important to you, so you’re not tempted to spend money on something just because you’re feeling down.

Take Care of What You Already Have

Instead of focusing on what you can’t afford, Kaden said it’s best to nourish what you have. She described this as small things like eating nutritious foods and cleaning out your car, as well as larger aspects like taking care of your mental health.

“If you want to live a frugal simple life living below your means, you’ve got to have your head right,” Kaden said.
