Earning more than the U.S. average salary of $64,505 (per Forbes) doesn’t mean you have to get a college degree.

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), here are six occupations that offer a $75,000 (or higher) salary via apprenticeships and licensing.

Elevator Installer and Repairer

  • Annual median pay: $106,580

Elevator installers and repairers install, maintain and service lifts, escalators and moving walkways. Break into this field by completing a four-year, paid union apprenticeship with an elevator company or contractor, followed by state licensing in many areas. Most employment opportunities are found through building equipment contractors.

Electrician

  • Annual median pay:  $62,350

Electricians install and repair electrical systems, including those involving lighting and communication. Most enter the trade via apprenticeship programs run by contractors or unions, though some attend technical school, and licensing is required in most states. Electricians are commonly employed by electrical contractors or manufacturing companies.

Detective or Criminal Investigator

  • Annual median pay:  $93,580

Detectives investigate serious crimes and gather evidence. Detectives typically begin their careers as police officers and transition into investigative roles after gaining experience and passing department exams. Jobs exist in local police departments, sheriffs’ offices and state investigative units.

Web Developer

  • Annual median pay:  $95,380

Web developers build and maintain websites and applications. Many enter the field through coding bootcamps, online learning programs or self-directed training and get hired based on portfolios. Work is common in tech firms, marketing agencies and contract projects and can be found through major job boards.

Real Estate Broker

  • Annual median pay:  $72,280

Real estate brokers oversee property transactions and manage agents. A broker position requires state licensing and prior real estate sales agent experience. Brokers work through established real estate firms or open their own office.

Power Plant Operator

  • Annual median pay:  $103,600

Power plant operators control and maintain systems that generate electricity. Training mainly occurs on site and licensing or certification may be required. A strong math and science background is helpful. Most jobs are with electric power generation and utility companies.
