Discover it Chrome Gas & Restaurants

Discover offers this gas rewards card that pays you back for buying fuel and eating out. Use this cash rewards credit card and get 2 percent cash back on up to $1,000 in combined gas and restaurant purchases each quarter, and Discover will automatically match all cash back at the end of the first year for new cardholders. Cash back never expires, and rewards can be redeemed in any amount, at any time.

Bank of America Cash Rewards

Earn a $200 online cash rewards bonus if you make at least $500 worth of purchases within the first 90 days of your account opening, plus get cash back on gas up to the first $2,500 in combined gas, grocery or wholesale club purchases each quarter. You can earn additional credit card rewards of 1 percent cash back after you have reached the $2,500 limit in combined purchases.

Discover it Cash Back

Discover it allows you to earn money — even if gas prices are high — with the 5 percent back option. Although the 5 percent category does rotate each quarter between gas, restaurant, wholesale club and Amazon purchases, you can still earn 1 percent back on other purchases. As with the Discover it Chrome card, Discover will automatically match all cash back at the end of the first year for new cardholders. Cash back never expires, and rewards can be redeemed in any amount, at any time. Chase Ink Business Cash

Business professionals can earn 2 percent back at the pump and when eating out. In addition to the cash back on gas and restaurant purchases, you can earn 5 percent back on business purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services, limited to $25,000 each account anniversary year, as well as 1 percent cash back on all other purchases. There’s no annual fee to be a cardholder.

Discover it Chrome for Students

The Discover it Chrome for Students is a great option for college students to use at the pump with 2 percent cash back on up to $1,000 in combined gas and restaurant purchases per quarter. Earn 1 percent cash back on other purchases, and get an extra $20 in rewards each year when you maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Plus, you’ll get an unlimited dollar-for-dollar match on rewards earned the first year. There’s no annual fee to use this card.

American Express Blue Cash Preferred

The Blue Cash Preferred card from American Express might be a better option than most gas station credit cards. In addition to the 3 percent cash back at gas stations, you can earn up to 6 percent back on grocery purchases up to $6,000, and 1 percent back on other purchases. Note that there is a $95 annual fee with this card, but you can earn $200 back in the first three months of card membership if you spend $1,000.

Costco Anywhere Visa Card

The Costco Anywhere Visa offers more flexibility than many gas credit cards. In addition to the 4 percent cash back on gas worldwide, you can earn 3 percent cash back on restaurant and travel purchases, 2 percent cash back on online and in-store Costco purchases and 1 percent cash back on all other purchases. The 4 percent cash back on gas purchases is available for the first $7,000 per year and then drops to 1 percent thereafter. There’s no annual fee if you have a paid Costco membership.

Wells Fargo Propel American Express

The Wells Fargo Propel American Express card allows you to earn triple points at gas stations, as well as on eating out and ordering in, ride-shares, transit, flights, hotels, homestays, car rentals and popular streaming services. Additionally, you’ll earn one point per dollar on all other purchases. There’s no annual fee and no foreign currency conversion fees with this AmEx card. Plus, there’s no limit to the points you can earn and no blackout dates when you redeem points for air travel. It also comes with cellphone protection.

BP Visa

The BP Visa is the best gas station credit card for a specific gas station because it allows you to redeem rewards on all purchases at a BP gas pump. For every $100 you spend at BP gas stations, you’ll get 25 cents off per gallon for the first 90 days upon opening the account, for up to 20 gallons. You’ll also get 15 cents off per gallon for every $100 spent on groceries, dining and travel, and five cents off for each $100 spent on other purchases. You can begin earning rewards 90 days after you open the credit card.
