There are many great things to say about big-city life in Florida. There’s a lively buzz in the air. You have an ample array of restaurants and entertainment venues to choose from, and there’s typically some element of diversity among residents.

Methodology: For this study, GOBankingRates analyzed suburbs in Florida to find the cheapest cost of living. First GOBankingRates found suburbs in Florida using Niche.com’s best suburbs in Florida. For each location, a number of factors were found, including total population, population ages 65 and over, total households and household median income, as sourced from the U.S. Census American Community Survey; the cost-of-living indexes as sourced from Sperling’s BestPlaces; the livability index as sourced from AreaVibes; the average single family home value as sourced from the Zillow Home Value Index. Using the average home value, assuming a 10% down payment, and using the national average 30-year fixed mortgage rate as sourced from the Federal Reserve Economic Data, the average mortgage cost was calculated. Using the cost-of-living indexes and the national average expenditure costs, as sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey, the average expenditure costs were calculated for each city. Using the expenditure and mortgage costs, the total cost of living was calculated. The cities were sorted to show the cheapest suburbs in Florida. All data was collected on and is up to date as of Aug. 9, 2024.
