In this edition of our Small Business Spotlight series, we’re featuring Le Bourriche Bar & Gifts, which specializes in personalized gift baskets. Based out of Avondale, Louisiana, founder T.A. Wilson has a passion for custom baskets — she’s been creating them for over 20 years — and takes pride in every detail of every basket. Here, we chat with Wilson about the most rewarding parts of working for herself, the financial strain the pandemic put on her business and how people can support small business owners like herself.
Was there a particular moment or experience that inspired you to start your business?
My eldest son called and scolded me for not doing more. Then the next day, I took out a loan and started Le Bourriche Bar & Gifts.

What did you take from past experiences or jobs that you knew you did not want to be a part of your new business?
Lack of training from authority figures, poor hours, body aches, and just being sick and tired of not being able to find my true self.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a business owner?
Meeting new people and the feeling of being super proud of myself after I’m able to create.

How has the pandemic affected your business?
The pandemic has greatly affected Le Bourriche Bar & Gifts because most of the profits are from festivals and fairs. [With those on pause], inventory couldn’t be bought. Myself and the business had to take out loans just to pay rent, put gas in the car and to maintain.
How can people continue to support your business during this time?
People can continue to support Le Bourriche Bar & Gifts by liking and sharing a post, telling a friend, making a purchase, or even donating to the nonprofit LBB Foundation for a Cause.
