Most of us have to work for a living. However, your bi-weekly, after-tax paycheck may not be enough to make ends meet these days.

With continued high prices, it can be difficult to cover all your expenses. Luckily, you have options to earn extra passive income.

Here are four ways to earn passive income in 2025 that pretty much anyone can do, according to U.S. News & World Report and Shopify:

Buy a Certificate of Deposit

Leaving your cash savings in a high-yield savings account isn’t a bad idea. But, if you already have at least three to six months’ worth of emergency savings set aside, consider earning a passive income by moving your remaining funds into a certificate of deposit (CD) instead.

The key difference between a CD and a high-yield savings account is that the interest rate will be fixed for a predetermined period, typically ranging from a few months to years. Once the CD matures, you can access that cash and either reinvest it or use it to pay for expenses.

Rent Out Your Vehicle

If you’re working remotely or perhaps you have a spare car in the driveway, you might want to think about listing it on a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform like Turo or Getaround.

It’s sort of like Airbnb but for cars. You can choose to rent out your car on the days you know you don’t need to use it and start generating passive income pretty quickly.

Rent Out Extra Space in Your Home

If you have unused space in your home, whether it’s an empty basement or a spare bedroom, consider renting it out on your terms using a platform like Airbnb. You can host short-term travelers and earn extra income on the side to supplement the income from your 9-to-5 job.

Alternatively, if you’d rather rent out your space just for a few hours or for the day, consider listing it on a platform like Peerspace. The platform connects you to companies and individuals looking to rent meeting rooms, event venues, filming locations, and more.

Sell Your Stuff

If you have a bunch of things lying around the house that you don’t use anymore, think about selling your items on platforms like OfferUp or Facebook Marketplace.

It’s easy to snap a few photos, post your items and set each listing to pickup only. This way, people can bring cash right to your front door in exchange for your second-hand items, and you’ll barely have to lift a finger.
