Wondering where the rich “summer”? While plebeians travel to visit grandma in Missouri, ultra-high-net-worth individuals frolic at some of the most exclusive and glamorous destinations on the planet.
And they won’t exactly be flying economy. They’ll be arriving in style via private jets (duh).
From luxurious amenities to beautiful scenery, here are five elite summer hotspots where the rich so totally arrive in private jets.
The French Riviera
From dining at Saint Tropez’s Club 55 to attending the Monaco Grand Prix and staying in private villas in the resort town of Sain-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, billionaires, celebrities and yacht owners pack the French Riviera each summer. As proof, Nice Cote d’Azur is one of Europe’s busiest private jet airports, per Blacklane, during the summer season.
“A powerful draw is the actual social ecosystem that exists there and has existed there for decades,” said Tracy Lamourie, founder and managing partner at Lamourie Media. In other words, spending summers in the French Riviera telegraphs status and proximity to power.
Sardinia, Italy
Per Aida Mollenkamp, founder of Salt & Wind Travel, The Emerald Coast in Sardinia is one of the most exclusive summer destinations in the Mediterranean — so much so that Olbia Costa Smeralda airport requires private jet landing slots June through August.
“The Aga Khan developed the area in the 1960s as a retreat for royalty and billionaires and that energy is still very much alive,” Mollenkamp said. “Think Hotel Cala di Volpe, Nikki Beach club and superyacht-lined Porto Cervo.”
Ibiza, Spain
While most think of Ibiza as a hedonistic, party destination, Lamourie stated the city has also become a full-on lifestyle hub, curating “luxury experiences for the high end.” A magnet for fashion insiders, tech founders and music executives, Ibiza is a rare, summer locale where EDM (electric dance music) and vibrant nightlife collide with farm-to-table dining and personalized yoga retreats. Unsurprisingly, chartered jets pack the region between May and August.
The Hamptons
Because of its close proximity to Manhattan, The Hamptons is the easiest luxury escape for professionals working in the city. Per Social Life Magazine, The Hamptons is where the ultra-wealthy concentrate their most important relationship-building from Memorial Day through Labor Day because “social settings lower barriers that office environments create.”
Offering an elite, seaside enclave of finance, tech and media bigwigs wanting to see and be seen, The Hamptons sees helicopters and private jet traffic as practically part of its regular, weekend commute.
Aspen, Colorado
Mostly known for its winter skiing, Aspen has quietly become an elite summer hotspot where the rich go when they want privacy — so much so that the secluded Red Mountain has come to be known as “Billionaire Mountain.” The city offers understated luxury, beautiful scenery, horseback riding and moderate temperatures for wellness devotees, creatives and philanthropists. According to the New York Times, high-end events like Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Food and Wine Classic are popular draws.
