To take to the skies all by yourself, you need a private jet that will get you from takeoff to landing in one piece, which is not an inexpensive request. Having a private jet costs money — just ask Taylor Swift the next time you see her flying over your town.
It’s not just the jets themselves that are pricey, but everything from fuel to insurance to maintenance is enough to drain the average person’s bank account several times over. Plus, when you need to store a private jet, you can look at paying anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million each year in hangar storage and upkeep fees.
You need to have a sky-high income or deep pockets to get the typical private jet, but there are five that are considered to be the most expensive in the world. The tech and auto site SlashGear noted that, “While many online estimates for the most expensive private jets in the world can prove inaccurate to some degree — as private sales of jets are typically kept under wraps — there have been a few documented cases of remarkably expensive private jets and even jumbo jetliners converted for private use.”
Using their data and research, here are the five most expensive private jets money can buy.
Airbus ACJ319NEO
- Estimated price: $73 million to $100 million
This is the cheapest private jet on the list, but you still need to be a Rockefeller or Jay Z to even consider buying it. With a lavish interior that can be customized to fit any buyer’s aesthetic, the Airbus ACJ319NEO comes equipped with all the bells and whistles. The main cabin comes in at 315 square feet in space and can comfortably seat up to eight passengers for a 15-hour non-stop flight. Bedrooms, conference rooms and offices are all available and can all be tailored to your liking.
Airbus A380
- Estimated price: $130 million
Often referred to as the “Flying Palace,” the Airbus A380 was purchased by the Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in 2007 and sold in 2013 to an undisclosed buyer with an equally undisclosed cost. The royal entrepreneur placed a special order for the first Airbus’ double-decker A380 plane, a highly upgraded version of the world’s largest passenger airplane. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact upgrades Al Waleed made, but it is safe to say they only added value to what the Airbus A380 was eventually sold for.
Boeing 747-8 BBJ
- Estimated price: $225 million to $239 million
This aircraft is the creme de la creme of the Boeing Business Jet fleet, a luxury line built for traveling comfortably and in a style above the rest. From the private rooms to off-cabin areas to world-class technological upgrades, the Boeing 747-8 BBJ is the prime example of flying how you want to when you’ve got the money to make it happen. Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud reportedly bought one and redid the interior for roughly an additional $275 million.
Airbus ACJ350
- Estimated price: $300 million
You get to pick between two models: the A350-900 and the A350-1000, which is just a bit longer in length. Either way, you’ll be riding in the air on one of the most advanced private jets in the world. Bring 25 of your closest friends or family members because the Airbus ACJ350’s interior comes with more than 1,000 square feet, including large private quarters, bedrooms that can fit king-sized beds, and eight temperature zones to fit all the various comforts of your guests for up to a record-setting 20-hour maximum flight time.
Boeing BBJ 777-9
- Estimated price: $426 million
The most expensive private business-line jet in the world belongs to Boeing’s BBJ77X family of aircraft and can even go up in price depending on how you want to customize the design of the interior cabins. Private quarters, spacious private sections, state-of-the-art conference rooms, more than enough elbow room in the living areas, a full-service private bar and more are spread out across 1,100 square feet of the interior.
If you have the money to buy a private jet with this price tag but also have a guilty conscience about the size of your carbon footprint increasing upon using it, wipe your flop sweat away. Utilizing tech crafted by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Boeing BBJ777-9 consumes less fuel while also flying much more quietly than luxury jet models in its class, cutting down on air and noise pollution.
