Stars, they’re just like us. No, really they are … in some ways.
While you likely didn’t have an elite hair and makeup team get you ready for work this morning, odds are you did make a point of hitting Target recently to get a few new things you needed — and some things you didn’t know you needed. Or perhaps you and the family rolled into Costco to turn hitting the free samples into your own personal Olympics, or made a pitstop at Walmart.
If you shop at a big-box retailer, you might be surprised to find that you have quite a bit in common with several celebrities. Yes, most of them can go to designers for attire that costs more than your mortgage, or hire personal chefs and shoppers to make their lives go smoothly, but a lot of them also just plain love to go to Target.
GOBankingRates went on an adventure, journeying from the Hollywood Walk of Fame to the aisles of Target, Costco and Walmart to see which celebs shop just like you.
Lana Del Rey
From embodying a working class glamor across her award-winning albums to relaxing at the local Waffle House, Lana Del Rey is, unsurprisingly, a regular at Costco. In 2020, the chanteuse took a picture of herself at Costco, calling the store her “happy place.”
Billie Eilish
Where does the “Lunch” singer get the ingredients for her own lunch? At Costco.
In a group of Instagram stories back in 2021, the Academy Award and Grammy winner shared that she’s an aficionado of Costco’s organic peanut butter, which she said she uses for “everything.” Her favorite use, however, is homemade peanut butter cookies. She’s definitely “Birds of a Feather” with many people for that preference.
Mandy Moore
The pop star made people cry in bucket loads as one of the leads of the network weepie “This is Us,” inspiring fans to snap up tissues in bulk. So, it’s unsurprising that Moore herself is a Costco shopper, once photographed buying toilet paper and other household items.
Angelina Jolie
Actor. Humanitarian. Activist. Mother. How does this style icon accomplish everything? Being a regular Target shopper certainly helps her stock up on the necessities for her household. The actor has been photographed with her kids at various Target locations over the years.
Ariana Grande
The pop star and future Glinda the Good Witch of Wicked has the incredible distinction of having her own perfume line in Target while also being a Target shopper. When the “thank u, next” singer visited a Target in Lancaster County, PA back in 2019, she caused such a sensation that fans asked to take pictures.
Britney Spears
It’s no secret that Britney Spears has been through a lot over the past couple of years, and fans are genuinely excited to see the iconic star get her life back. Reporting suggests that Spears endured the challenges of touring and earning while living under a conservatorship by indulging in retail therapy.
In fact, documents obtained from her conservatorship case suggest that she visited Target roughly 80 times in 2018.
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson can find her albums on the aisles of Walmart while she’s shopping there herself. The singer turned talk show host shared that she goes to Walmart to get groceries, because where she lives is so remote.
Helen Mirren
If you were a Walmart shopper in Butte, Montana, odds are you might have laid eyes on a British Dame out perusing the goods. In an interview with Kelly Clarkson, Mirren shared that while filming the popular Yellowstone series 1923, she became very familiar with her local Walmart, coming to know it “like the back of my hand.”
Post Malone
In one subreddit devoted to Walmart shoppers and employees, Walmart workers were invited to share the celebrities they’d seen in their store locations. One contributor noted that they’d seen rapper, Taylor Swift collaborator, and tattoo aficionado Post Malone in the self-checkout line.
Paul Bettany
Before he was thrilling Marvel fans as the all-powerful Vision, actor Paul Bettany was known for playing Chaucer in “A Knight’s Tale.” One of those Walmart Redditors said they saw Bettany at their Walmart after he filmed that earlier classic.
Jamal Adams
Finding fashionable threads that fit even the biggest frame, like a muscular, football-playing frame, can be a challenge even for the most famous athletes. Safety for the Tennessee Titans Jamal Adams found a number of chic yet casual looks from Walmart gear and showed them off in a photoshoot for Complex.
Cardi B
Cardi B may be one of the most popular and influential rappers around, but she’s also still a Bronx gal who loves going to Target. Fans have spotted the rapper among the aisles and stopped to take pictures with her.
Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey can shop – well, pretty much wherever she wants. However, the icon has a penchant for shopping at Costco. According to Costco.97, Oprah’s love for Costco started when she recommended Costco finds to her studio audience. The fact that she could pick up one of her own Oprah’s Book Club recommendations there certainly only adds for her Costco zeal.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson
The adorable “Full House” twins turned fashionistas know the value of getting a good deal at Walmart. That’s why the duo started selling goods from their elite designer brand The Row at Walmart. Fellow celebs like Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner have been spotted with the brand’s Margaux bag, which can be found on Walmart.com.
Blake Lively
Fresh off the heels of her recent box office smash “It Ends With Us,” there are a lot of ways that Blake Lively could celebrate. But why not take a jaunt to a local Target? The star could find her own Blake Brown Beauty line on the shelves. But even before she had her own line in Target, Lively was photographed at a 2013 Target store opening in Toronto.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
As the titular character in the beloved series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar learned how to dispatch all kinds of vampiric baddies. But as a real life shopper, she finds trips to Target also drive a stake into the heart of her wallet. The actress once joked that she was one of those people who couldn’t just walk out of the store with only three items.
Al Pacino
If you think you’re weak against the temptations of Target, just know that even the Godfather himself has been swayed by the temptations of the Target shopping experience.
Lea Michele
The “Glee” star may have traded the TV’s glow for the spotlights of Broadway, but she still enjoys being in the brightly lit aisles of Target. Michele was photographed shopping at Target with her co-star years ago, and her passion for the store has also dovetailed with her philanthropic interests. In 2013, she co-hosted the launch of Feed America for Target stores.
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez is a newly-minted billionaire, and she still knows where to find a terrific bargain. Before lockdowns started in 2020, she created some Instagram stories of her and her friends shopping for board games at Target.
Austin Butler
Austin Butler may have blazed up the silver screen as Elvis, brooded like James Dean in “The Bikeriders,” and terrified audiences as the malevolent Feyd Rautha in “Dune: Part 2,” but you can still see him occasionally in the aisles of Target. He was once photographed there with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens.
Zendaya
Shoppers at a Bay Area Target experienced some Euphoria of their own when they caught a sight of actor and fashionista Zendaya and her partner, none other than Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, browsing the aisles.
Lizzo
What’s more iconic than heading to Target, in person, to shop for your new album? Doing just that while clad in a bodysuit from your own line and holding a bottle of tequila. Well, Lizzo did just that back in 2022 to celebrate the release of the alternative cover to her album “Special.”
Amy Adams
The star of the forthcoming film “Nightbitch” may have deserved more Oscar gold than she’s currently received, but at least she can get truly winning prices at Target. Adams has been photographed coming out of Target multiple times.
Nicolas Cage
As the titular character in Oz Perkins’ new horror film “Longlegs,” Nicolas Cage sported a pretty grungy look. If he wants to clean up and pamper himself in fine style, he’d do well to go to Target — or go back to Target, where he was spotted years ago, taking pictures with fans.
