There are certain boxes that need to be checked off if you’re shopping for a new hybrid SUV for your household. Ideally, this vehicle should be comfortable and roomy enough to accommodate the whole family, along with miscellaneous cargo essentials. The hybrid should also be reliable and safe to drive and affordable enough to fit every kind of budget.
In selecting the most family-friendly hybrid SUVs, GOBankingRates reviewed several hybrid SUV rankings conducted by TrueCar, Edmunds and Car and Driver. We also took care to make sure these hybrid SUVs had reasonable starting prices — each vehicle mentioned is available to shop for under $50,000.
In alphabetical order, see which seven vehicles made the cut as the most reliable hybrid SUVs for families.
2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
- Starting price: $35,700
According to Car and Driver, the Honda CR-V is the brand’s best-selling model and with good reason. The Honda CR-V is built with families in mind, from the five seats available inside the vehicle to the praise heaped on for its roominess in both the cabin and cargo areas.
Safety also comes first in this compact SUV. Each 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid features a Honda Sensing suite of safety features. This allows the model to continue receiving high safety ratings and works to keep families safe during short and long drives alike.
2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid
- Starting price: $38,365
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid took the number one spot in TrueCar’s 20 Best Hybrid SUVs for 2024 ranking.
In case the five seats in the Honda CR-V aren’t enough, this midsize SUV offers three rows of seating with the capability to seat up to seven. Additional safety features include a blind spot camera, the ability to detect pedestrians and a blind spot camera.
True, the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid doesn’t offer a hands-free driving system, but this absent feature will hardly bother on-the-go big families focused on getting safely from point A to point B.
2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
- Starting price: $34,000
What if you want a compact SUV from Hyundai that offers five seats? Car shoppers with slightly smaller families have found it in the 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, which offers two rows of spacious seating inside its cabin and a large cargo area. Additionally, the Tucson Hybrid has advanced safety features like an around view camera and automatic back-in parking, both parallel and perpendicular.
Each SUV starts at $34K, but buyers should be on alert and watch out for the more expensive trim levels, which can increase the overall price tag.
2024 Kia Niro Hybrid
- Starting price: $28,315
Out of any hybrid vehicle in this roundup, the 2024 Kia Niro has the lowest starting price, which is a pretty big selling point unto itself. Affordable pricing aside, some of the Kia Niro’s bragging rights include its strong fuel economy and five roomy seats inside the cabin.
2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid
- Starting price: $29,965
The 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid comes favorably reviewed and with a starting price that’s only $1,650 more than the Kia Niro, in the event your budget has some wiggle room to splurge a little.
Both TrueCar and Edmunds praise the Kia Sportage for offering advanced driver-assist systems and having a massive cargo area along with a spacious cabin, which seats up to five.
Speaking of that cabin, the TrueCar ranking noted that the Kia Sportage is seven inches longer than previous generation models. This translates to more legroom and headroom, which may be extra appealing to families that like a little extra room in their vehicle.
2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
- Starting price: $29,570
The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid occupies the 10th spot on TrueCar and Edmunds’ respective rankings of the best hybrid SUVs.
With a starting price of just under $30K, this hybrid is an attractive option for families on a budget without sacrificing any subcompact SUV incentives. This vehicle seats up to five, has plenty of cargo space and has a plethora of safety features, like forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, available to drivers.
2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid
- Starting price:Â $46,065
At a starting price of just over $46K, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is the most expensive hybrid SUV on our list. However, this will hardly bother families willing to pay a little more money to invest in a midsize SUV.
Not only is the Grand Highlander fuel-efficient, but it also comes with seven seats in three rows with the added bragging rights that kids and adults alike can sit comfortably in all three rows.
