Despite the fact that used car prices cratered throughout 2023 and 2024, they are now most certainly on the rise again. iSeeCars has reported that over the last three months, the average prices of 1- to 5-year-old used cars have been on the rise, leaping up $317 per car in March, then $599 per car in April and $630 per car in May.
As the used car market continues to claw its way out of the COVID deficit that it found itself in over the last few years — the reduced production of new cars during the pandemic made it such that fewer used cars were on the market — used car prices are slowly but surely increasing. This uptick comprises a number of different brands and models, but it is particularly ascendant with Japanese luxury cars such as INFINITI, Hyundai, Subaru and Acura. As iSeeCars put it, used vehicles have moved from a $2,406 pandemic-era deficit to the overall $630 gain of May 2025, with expectations that used car averages will jump from around $32,317 to approximately $35,000.
Want to know which brands are making the biggest price leaps? The aforementioned Japanese luxury brands certainly are, as well as a number of American old reliables. Keep reading to find out more.
