Used car prices rather infamously dipped from 2020 through 2024, due almost entirely to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first half of the 2020s, new car production plummeted, so much so that there were fewer and fewer used cars being put on the market, especially in the 1-year-old to 5-year-old range. That said, the used car market has been growing throughout 2025, with prices once again on the rise as new car production ramps up.
Per iSeeCars, the average prices of used cars ages 1 to 5 increased $317 per car in March, then $599 per car in April and finally $630 per car in May. Despite this uptick in prices, some brands and models are still seeing big price drops on the used car market — especially Elon Musk’s recently beleaguered Tesla brand.
As iSeeCars has noted, all four models of the Tesla brand – the Model S, the Model Y, the Model 3 and Model X — have seen their used prices continue to drop across 2025. While iSeeCars does not offer an explanation for this, it is worth noting that during Elon Musk’s tumultuous time as a member of President Donald Trump’s administration Tesla stock prices plummeted.
Elsewhere, a number of rather pricey models, such as the Porsche Taycan and the Maserati Levante, continue to see their used prices dwindle. It remains to be seen whether and when the recent used car upswing might impact Tesla or the other cars on this list.
