You might think that the best part of getting older is gaining wisdom, or looking back at your life and feeling satisfaction with all your accomplishments. In fact, the true golden parts of your golden years are actually the sweet discounts you qualify for as a senior.
From restaurants to car rentals, there are a number of businesses that offer some significant senior discounts. GOBankingRates took a look into the hot spots where you can get some pretty cool deals as a senior.
Bonefish Grill
Got an AARP card? If you present one at checkout, you can save 10% on food and nonalcoholic beverages.
Joe’s Crab Shack
If you want to spend some time with friends, catching up over crabs and fixings, you can head over to Joe’s Crab Shack. The restaurant also offers a 10% discount on food and nonalcoholic beverages.
IHOP
Whether you have a hankering for the pancakes IHOP is celebrated for, want to savor a plate of crispy shrimp, or even enjoy a fresh berry salad, you can find it all on the restaurant’s celebrated “55+ Menu.” This specialty menu offers the IHOP classics at a reduced price.
Denny’s
The most famous casual dining chain of all is Denny’s, where AARP members get not 10% off as is the organization’s standard, but 15% off. Denny’s also has its All Day Diner Deals, which includes specials from pancakes to hamburgers to country-fried steak.
El Pollo Loco
El Pollo Loco is the chicken champion of the West, and seniors who dine at the Mexican-style fast-casual favorite can save while they eat. El Pollo Loco offers 10% off to guests 60 and older, up to $1, with every visit. Participation varies by location.
McCormick & Schmick’s
Known for offering some of the finest steaks and seafood in the U.S., McCormick & Schmick’s can let you dine in fine style for a very fine price with a 10% discount on food and nonalcoholic beverages if you present your AARP card.
Outback Steakhouse
Sometimes, there’s just nothing better than a Bloomin’ Onion. You can share one, and still have enough money left over for a delicious steak (even if the room in your belly might be dubious) if you show your AARP card, which gets you a 10% discount.
AMC
Heartbreak may feel good in the AMC theaters, taking in the latest swoon worthy romances, action epics, and laugh-a-minute comedies. If you’re over 60 years old, you can get all those feelings at a lower price, through discounted tickets at certain locations.
Cinemark
Not to be outdone by its competitor, Cinemark theaters also offer a discount for senior citizens through its Senior Discount Days for moviegoers who are 62 or older.
Avis Rent a Car
With your AARP membership card, you can save up to 30% off base rates for cars, while also getting an upgrade on class bookings for compact and full-size cars.
Amtrak
Why not use your free time as a retiree to travel the country by train? If you’re 65 or older, you can get 10% off on most rail fares for almost all Amtrak trains.
Greyhound
Travelers who are 62 years old and up can hit the road with Greyhound buses, enjoying senior discounts for specific destinations and dates.
