With spring right around the corner, the time has come to start planning spring breaks, warm-weather trips and early summer vacations. Some of the best locations for such trips are along America’s coastlines, where so many gorgeous coastal towns have utilized their natural beauty to become tourist havens and vacation hotspots. It’s also nice to enjoy a springtime trip without breaking the bank.
Thinking of going on vacation this spring? GOBankingRates consulted with a number of sources, including Kyla Moore, public relations specialist for Expedia, regarding the prices and perks of five coastal towns you should consider visiting this season.
Clearwater, Florida
Love Exploring noted that Clearwater is a mix of white-sand beauty, beach-side restaurants and hotels with a breathtaking ocean view and a quaint, small-town feel. It’s also well-known for the Pier 60 tourist attraction.
Moore noted that Clearwater is one of the 10 most popular beach destinations all year on vacation rentals online marketplace Vacation Rentals by Owner (VRBO).
Flight and hotel packages on the Expedia app to Clearwater start at $1,097 for a five-night stay, including round-trip flights from New York, though you can bundle flights and hotels and save $125 on your overall trip.
Half Moon Bay, California
World Atlas has called Half Moon Bay a “coastal gem” thanks to its historic buildings, scenic hiking trails, incredible beach vistas, farm-to-table restaurants and boutique shops.
Per Moore, VRBO rentals go for $190 per night on average during the spring, while the Expedia app can get you a five-night stay in Half Moon Bay (including flight and hotel packages) starting at $1,752, including round-trip flights from Dallas.
Ogunquit, Maine
As Love Exploring has noted, Ogunquit is only an hour-long drive from Boston, and practically explodes with blooming flora along the Atlantic Ocean. There are also a number of coves, fishing villages, a popular downtown area, boutiques, art galleries, cafés and restaurants, all along what Love Exploring calls the “loveliest beach in New England.”
Moore noted that spring is a quiet time of year for Ogunquit, with the going rate for nightly rentals at about $190 per night on VRBO, compared to summer usual rate of $300 per night. Meanwhile, an Expedia booking from, say, New York, will find you flight and hotel packages starting at $1,182.
Cannon Beach, Oregon
Built around the famous Haystack Rock outgrowth that looms over its beaches, Cannon Beach is a more rugged vacation spot than other places on this list, with a small population of 1,500, countless wildflowers surrounding the area, beautiful coastal views, the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, and a number of seafood restaurants.
You can easily find a Cannon Beach cottage on VBRO for an average nightly rate of $165, while a flight and hotel package from Los Angeles will start at around $913.
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Hilton Head Island is known for a number of kid-friendly activities and attractions, making it a perfect location for families, with an interactive children’s museum, playgrounds, parks and nearly 300 restaurants.
VRBO nightly rentals in Hilton Head Island go for approximately $180 per night in the spring, while flight and hotel packages from Expedia start at around $2,557.
