In today’s somewhat volatile economy, it’s important to know where you can save a dollar, or rather, spend less of them on the everyday items you need.
Dollar Tree is known for its money-saving products, and plenty of shoppers make a point to shop at the discount chain regularly. However, while many of the store’s products are good values with largely favorable customer reviews, not everything lining the shelves is golden.
Just because something has a cheap price tag doesn’t mean it has to be cheap in quality. Even so, here are eight Dollar Tree items that you’ll probably want to steer clear of — even if they only cost you $1.25.
Spice Supreme Pure Ground Cinnamon
This ground cinnamon sold at Dollar Tree used to be satisfactory once upon a time, but now it has more negative than positive reviews, so much so that it rebranded. The name changed from Supreme Tradition ground cinnamon to Spice Supreme pure ground cinnamon. Will this product have better luck under a new label — even if suspiciously similar to the original?
Users complained that this product didn’t look, taste or smell like cinnamon should. Now, with the rebrand, it currently has 0 stars. One user said that it was yellow in color instead of brown like you’d think. Other users claimed the spice smelled like cumin instead of cinnamon, and some complained that it tasted funny. Only time will tell if a new label can revamp this very poorly rated item.
Healthy Chef Canola Non-Stick Cooking Spray
You’d expect a nonstick cooking spray to help you keep your food from sticking as you cook. Unfortunately, user after user complained that this cooking spray actually caused their food to stick to the pan, making it inedible to the tune of having a 2.3-star rating out of a 5-star total.
Other complaints focused on the brown residue left on pans by the spray, which was difficult to scrub clean.
Risparmio Grated Topping With Parmesan
Some users have out-of-the-ordinary uses for this product, such as filling a dog’s toy or feeding it to their pig. Others try to use it like grated parmesan cheese, but it doesn’t measure up. It currently has a rating of 2.1 stars out of 5 stars.
One user said this product, which was super fine like powder, ruined their spaghetti, giving it a sweet taste. Another user said it had the consistency of Coffee Mate powder and tasted like it had artificial sweeteners in it, while a different user said it tasted like grated chalk with no flavor.
Outdoor Fun Foil Jump Ropes
At first glance, these colorful jump ropes look like they’d be fun to use, but users say otherwise. The main complaint is that these 7-foot jump ropes are too short for a 5-foot child to use, which defeats the purpose of the product, even if it’s only $1.25.
According to Buddy Lee Jump Ropes, 7-foot jump ropes are appropriate for someone between 4 feet and 4 feet, 9 inches tall, which could be the reason this product has a 2.3-star rating.
Fragrance Warmer
This nonelectric fragrance warmer turned out to be a big disappointment to many users as it only has a 2.4-star rating.
The biggest complaint from users who ordered this product from Dollar Tree is that the majority of the warmers in their order arrived damaged, as in smashed. There were also some complaints about the warmer being solid white instead of two-tone in color and getting too hot during use.
