Whether outfitting your home or updating some essentials, it’s wise to shop around for the best deals — especially if you’re working within a budget.Â
Amazon, known for its vast selection and competitive prices, can trump traditional retailers, like Home Depot and Lowe’s when it comes to saving on certain items.
From outdoor lighting to kitchen upgrades and even high-end appliances, here’s where you can save a bundle by choosing Amazon over big-box home improvement stores.Â
Solar String Lights
Solar string lights are the perfect way to add a little ambiance to your backyard patio, deck or other outdoor area without worrying about plugging them in. And you can save a bundle if you shop the ones on Amazon instead of the ones offered at Home Depot or Lowe’s.Â
You can get a pack of 27-foot waterproof solar string lights with a remote control at Amazon for $17.99. A 27-foot string of solar string lights at Lowe’s is $39.98 and at Home Depot, you’ll pay $38.53 — over double the price at Amazon.
Stainless Steel Cabinet Pulls
If you’re planning to paint your kitchen cabinets and upgrade the pulls for a more modern look, you can spend a fortune if you’re not careful. Luckily, Amazon sells a 60-pack of 5-inch stainless steel, bar-style pulls for $38.99.
Home Depot sells a 10-pack of similar-looking ones for $48.94, and Lowe’s sells a 10-pack for $37.97.
If you shop at Amazon, it’s a matter of paying cents per pull — versus several dollars or more at the home improvement stores — which adds up to a huge savings.Â
Moen Halle Bathroom Faucet
Even though home improvement stores have an aisle dedicated to plumbing fixtures, it can pay to shop on Amazon if you’re looking for a new name-brand bathroom faucet.Â
For example, a Moen Halle widespread bathroom faucet in a spot-resistant, nickel finish, retails for $139 at Home Depot and $109 at Lowe’s. And while $30 is a great saving, Amazon’s price is even better. Amazingly, you can find the same Moen faucet for $87.57, a considerable savings over the price you’ll pay at Home Depot and about $20 cheaper than Lowe’s.
Dyson V8 Origin Extra Stick Vacuum
If you’re ready to splurge on a high-end vacuum, you might think you’re getting a great deal at Home Depot when you see this Dyson model for $469.99, but you’re not. And if you price the vacuum at Lowe’s, it’s the same as Home Depot’s price, so no savings there.
However, if you take the time to check Amazon, you’ll see the online e-commerce site is offering the vacuum for $345 — approximately $125 cheaper.
Delta In2ition Chrome Shower Head
If you’re still showering with the builder-grade shower head that was installed in your home during construction and you’re looking to upgrade your experience, the Delta In2ition Dual Shower Head has a detachable hand shower and shower head in one product. It also features four powerful spray options.
At Amazon, you can find this showerhead model for $49.35. At Home Depot, however, it retails for about $5 more or $54.98. At Lowe’s, it’s about $10 more for $59.98.
No matter what brand and model shower head you’re shopping for, compare prices between Amazon, Lowe’s and Home Depot because there’s a good chance you can save even more than $10.Â
Metal Shelving Unit
Metal shelving units can help bring order to your life by organizing loose items in the garage or storing extra pantry items. If you shop at Home Depot or Lowe’s, you’ll pay almost $60 per four-tier shelving unit. A quick look on Amazon yields a metal shelving unit with the same measurements for less than half the price at $26.99. That means you can get two for the price of one and have money left over.
