In the decades since the first model (Willys Jeep Station Wagon) debuted in 1946, SUVs have become increasingly popular. The past 15 years have really seen a spike. As of 2024, there are around 330 million SUVs on the roads worldwide, accounting for a nearly 10 times increase from 2010.

Thanks to their popularity, particularly among middle-class families, SUVs are being churned out in droves by auto manufacturers. But SUVs frequently come with an expensive downside: gas guzzling. Fortunately there are a number of SUVs hitting the market that are pretty decent, considering, with fuel efficiency.

The Kelley Blue Book published a list of the top most fuel-efficient SUVS in 2025. What are they like and how much do they cost?

2025 Nissan Kicks

What a cute and fun name for an SUV! The 2025 Nissan Kicks, the automobile’s second iteration, features standard driver-assist technology and has an option for all-wheel drive. Do consider a couple 2025 Nissan Kicks cons that are underscored by the Kelley Blue Book: It has sort of slow acceleration and there’s no option for a power driver’s seat.

The 2025 Nissan Kicks has a starting price (MSRP) of $23,220; however, as of Dec. 15, 2024, the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing suggests paying $465 to $552 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. Though note that prices are updated weekly, so it’s best to continually check Kelley Blue Book if considering buying any SUV.

2025 Kia Seltos

The 2025 Kia Seltos is a roomy SUV with high-grade technology and standout warranties available. But there is one small area where this vehicle is lacking (and it may be a downside for some drivers): Its most popular trims do not feature all-wheel drive.

The 2025 Kia Seltos has an MSRP of $25,965. But as of Dec. 15, 2024, the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing suggests paying $265 to $1,409 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. Check in weekly on the Kelley Blue Book site for up-to-date suggestions on what to pay.

2025 Hyundai Kona

The No. 3 most fuel-efficient SUV of 2025 is the 2025 Hyundai Kona. It’s also ranked No. 1 in Kelley Blue Book’s list of subcompact SUVs. It’s spacious, spiffy and, in comparison to its peers, affordable. It also has strong warranties available. The only major drawback is that its base engine is “a bit of a yawn,” according to Kelley Blue Book.

The 2025 Hyundai Kona subcompact SUV has winning ways in terms of practicality and affordability, with winning looks to match. Pricing starts at $25,745. Remember to check in weekly on the Kelley Blue Book site for up-to-date suggestions on what to pay. As of Dec. 15, 2024, it’s recommended that you pay $503 to $600 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment.

2025 Nissan Rogue Review

The 2025 Nissan Rogue Review features more sophisticated technology than its predecessors and also comes in strong with high MPG, tons of safety features and plush front seats. Plus, it’s particularly stylish looking — for an SUV, anyway. One drawback with this automobile is that it’s a bit lacking in the power delivery department

This SUV is on the pricier end, with an MSRP of $30,620. As of Dec. 15, 2024, the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing suggests paying $614 to $2,324 less than that, depending on trim and gear.

2025 Ford Escape

The 2025 Ford Escape has roomy cabin space and an abundance of high-end technology features. It falls a bit short with its base engine, which the Kelley Blue Book describes as “lackluster.”

This SUV has an MSRP of $29,645. But as of Dec. 15, 2024, the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing suggests paying $776 to $1,952 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. Again, these price cut suggestions are updated weekly, so be sure to check in before you consider making the move to buy a 2025 Ford Escape.
