Sadly, your beloved Jo-Ann Fabric is closing around 500 of its brick-and-mortar locations. However, there are plenty of alternatives to satiate your desire to stock up on seasonal goods and craft supplies.
Whether you’re looking for a place to get fabrics for your next sewing project, yarn to knit your new scarf, or ornaments in preparation for the next holiday season, here are six great alternatives to Jo-Ann Fabrics you should check out.
Blackbird Fabrics
You don’t need to head to the garment district in NYC to get a good fabric selection. Blackbird Fabrics is an online store with lots of sewing patterns, sewing notions as well and has lots of fabric options. The retailer even has exclusive fabrics you can only purchase from their shopfront.
Hobby Lobby
This is a popular store for a reason: You can get many of the same items you’ll find at Jo-Ann. Hobby Lobby offers plenty of seasonal decor, art supplies, and items for your next craft project. You may want to check in often, as Hobby Lobby has sales often for various items.
Though the selection may not be the same, Hobby Lobby does offer a good fabric selection.
Michaels
Michaels is another major retailer offering similar selections as Jo-Ann. Although there is more decor and art-focused supplies, it won’t matter if all you want is a huge embroidery selection, floral department and holiday decor. You can shop online, though, for fabrics.
Blick Art Materials
Blick Art Materials is a smaller chain that offers art supplies. Aside from paints and related materials, you can find more specialty items like fountain pens, watercolor bricks and printmaking supplies. If you want to get into new types of art mediums, you can purchase pottery glazes and clay.
Hobbii
Hobbii may be your best bet if you’re looking for a place to purchase high-quality yarn at great prices. Not trying to encourage you to spend more, but you go hog-wild at the store’s fabric and yarn selection.
Some of what you can find includes merino wool, cotton and mohair yarn. You can also find accessories like knitting needles and crochet hooks. Hobbii has fantastic sales throughout the year, but you can also save by purchasing in bulk (the more you buy, the more you save).
Yarnspirations
Yup, another yarn store. The retailer offers a similar selection to what you’ll find at Jo-Ann and offers brands many will recognize, like Caron, Red Heart and Sugar’n Cream. If you’re just starting out or want more guidance, there are craft kits available. Or, stock up on crafting tools you’ve been meaning to replace.
Like other major craft retailers, you can find free crochet and knitting patterns on the Yarnspirations website.
