What You Need to Know About the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard

The Barclays Arrival Premier World Elite Mastercard was discontinued in October, but this card — the Barclaycard Arrival Plus — offers comparable perks for people who want to earn miles for their purchases. Luckily, there are no plans as of yet to have the Barclaycard Arrival Plus discontinued.

Barclaycard Ring Mastercard Review: Low APR but No Frills

With the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard, cardholders earn unlimited double miles with every purchase, which can be redeemed for travel or cash-back statement credits, gift cards and merchandise. However, you get the most bang for your buck when you redeem miles for travel statement credits. Miles can be redeemed for all qualifying travel purchases with no restrictions.

The Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard is best for: Frequent travelers who want the flexibility to redeem miles for flights on any airline as well as any hotel booking.

Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard Benefits

In addition to earning unlimited miles that don’t expire, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card from Barclays U.S. comes with other benefits that can make the $89 annual fee worth it.

Generous Intro Offer

If you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first 90 days of opening a Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard, you’ll earn 70,000 bonus miles, which can be used toward a qualifying travel purchase.

Rewards for Redeeming Your Miles

Every time you redeem Barclaycard Arrival Plus rewards miles, you get 5 percent of those miles back to use toward your next redemption. For example, if you redeem 40,000 miles, you’ll receive 2,000 miles back as a bonus that can be applied the next time you redeem for a reward.

Flexible Redemption Options

You can use your miles on travel and cash-back statement credits, merchandise and gift cards. If miles are redeemed for travel, 10,000 miles are equal to a $100 statement credit. If miles are redeemed for a cash-back statement credit or a gift card, 10,000 miles are equal to $50.

Fortunately “travel” is defined pretty broadly with this card, so even if you don’t fly or book hotels very often, you can likely still redeem points in this category. Travel statement credits can be applied to purchases in any of the following categories: airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, campgrounds, car rental agencies, cruise lines, purchase and travel agencies, discount travel sites, trains, buses, taxis, limousines and ferries.

Barclay Arrival Plus Travel Benefits

Although Barclaycard Arrival Plus travel insurance is not available, there are other travel perks with this card, including an international chip and PIN that can be used at self-service chip terminals around the world, and no foreign transaction fees on international purchases.

Barclaycard Arrival Plus Enables You to Redeem Travel Rewards Seamlessly

Unlike some travel rewards cards that require you to book through their own websites or limit you to certain airlines and hotel chains to redeem rewards, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard lets you redeem your miles for any qualifying travel purchase. Although you do have the option to redeem miles for rewards outside of the travel category, you get half as much value for the miles, so this card would not be a good option for those who don’t plan to apply rewards toward travel purchases.
