In normal times, a Major League Baseball season runs 162 games. The beauty of the long season is that eventually, the cream rises to the top. The best team in the league will lose 60 games. The worst team in the league will win 60 games. The 42 games in between are where the rubber meets the road.Â
These, however, are not normal times. The 2020 MLB season will last just 60 games which isn’t nearly enough for that dynamic to play out. But it’s certainly better than nothing.Â
The league and the players union went back and forth during weeks of negotiations and finally settled on a short 60-game season that’s slated to start on July 23. Fewer games, however, means fewer dollars in MLB player paychecks.Â
In order to find out what some of the MLB’s most popular players will earn this season, GOBankingRates first looked at the complete 2019 All-Star rosters for both the American and National leagues. Then, using Spotrac data, the study found each player’s full 162-game payroll salary and calculated their prorated salary for a 60-game season, which represents 37% of their standard pay.
Keep reading to find out what your favorite players will earn this season — even if they wind up playing in empty stadiums.
