Are you looking to upgrade your family SUV? Whether you are converting from gas to electric or simply looking to drive in style, choosing the right SUV for your family — and your budget — can be a tough decision.

Here are four of the best electric SUVs for families in 2025.

Tesla Model Y Long Range

The Tesla Model Y Long Range is a great SUV for families because of its extensive driving range. Tesla reports that this model has an estimated 327 miles per charge. Even better, the Tesla Model Y Long Range charges 169 miles in 15 minutes. This SUV also boasts a smooth ride, with redesigned body castings and updated wheel and tire packages.

“The longer the range, the better for people who want to do more driving than a standard commute,” said Melanie Musson, auto industry expert at AutoInsurance.org. “If you want to take a road trip or a scenic drive, it’s nice to be able to stretch out your charging, especially when you’re off the beaten path with easy access to charging stations. The Model Y has comfortable passenger seating and room for luggage or gear. It’s reliable and luxurious without the price tag of a luxury EV.”

Prices for a 2025 Model Y start at $41,490 after the $7,500 tax credit is applied. Consider the Tesla Model Y Long Range if you need a daily driver or a vehicle designed for comfort on long road trips.

Kia EV9

The Kia EV9 is another top electric SUV. Its estimated range is between 230 and 304 miles, per Car and Driver. In addition, the Kia EV9 has a fast charge, so you don’t have to worry about waiting hours for it to charge before hitting the road.

“Finally an electric SUV that’s truly practical for a big family,” said Alex Black, chief marketing officer of EpicVIN. “An actual third row, not a mock one. You get the room, you get the range and you don’t have a spaceship-type interior — just a nice, comfortable ride. Kia knocked this one out of the park.”

Prices for the 2025 Kia EV9 start at $54,900.

Chevrolet Equinox EV

If you want a more affordable electric SUV, look into the Chevy Equinox EV. It has an estimated range of 285 miles, per Car and Driver. With a modern and comfortable interior, it makes a great family SUV for short and long trips.

“The Equinox is one of the most affordable EV SUVs, especially with the tax credit,” Musson said. “It’s admittedly not fancy. In fact, it doesn’t have some of the features that drivers have come to expect, like Apple CarPlay, but it is roomy, quiet and dependable. It also has an excellent range.”

Pricing for a 2025 model of this SUV starts at $33,600.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

If you’re looking for an affordable, sleek SUV, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 might be a good purchase. This SUV has an estimated range of 245 to 318 miles with each charge, according to Car and Driver. Some of its key features include all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive versions, a five-year, 60,000-mile warranty and a high-tech interior.

“More of a two-kid family kind of SUV, but so practical,” Black said. “It charges fast, drives well, and the interior is much more premium than you’d expect for that money. Not huge, but clever.”

Prices for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 start at $42,600.
