Are you looking to upgrade your vehicle before retirement? Buying a new vehicle every few years isn’t ideal for most retirees, especially as prices continue to climb. However, if you’re looking for a minivan that will last throughout retirement, we have you covered.
In this article, we’ll discuss five minivans to buy in 2025 that will last throughout retirement using data from iSeeCars, which combined data from over 312 million vehicles.
Toyota Sienna
The Toyota Sienna is one of the most popular minivans on the market. In fact, the iSeeCars study ranked it No. 1 with a reliability score of 8.7 out of 10. Not only does the Sienna have 39.1 cubic feet of cargo volume, but it also ranks as one of the safest minivans. With regular maintenance, Siennas can last over 200,000 miles.
“One of the best things about a Sienna is that it’s available in all-wheel drive (AWD), which makes driving in wintery conditions easier and safer,” said Melanie Musson, auto industry expert with CarInsurance.org.
Honda Odyssey
The Honda Odyssey is another great minivan option built to last throughout retirement. The iSeeCars study assigned the Odyssey a reliability score of 8.7 out of 10. Similarly, it holds the top spot for best minivan gas mileage, with an average of 22 mpg. Like the Sienna, the Odyssey can last over 200,000 miles with proper care.
“The safety features that come standard in the Odyssey are technologically advanced and surpass industry standards,” said Musson. “The Odyssey is often named one of the cheapest vehicles to insure, so that helps keep the cost of ownership down, which is important when retirees are on a strict budget.”
Kia Sedona
The Kia Sedona comes in third place for best minivans to buy in 2025, with an iSeeCars score of 8.1 out of 10. The Sedona offers ample leg room, which is great for long distance trips and travel. In addition, it comes with an affordable price tag of $36,500 for base models. If you plan on driving across the country, don’t rule out the Sedona.
Dodge Grand Caravan
The Dodge Grand Caravan is next up on the list, with a reliability score of 8.0 out of 10. The Grand Caravan is one of the best minivans for towing, with a towing capacity of 3,600 pounds. If you’re looking to tow a small camper, trailer or boat, the Grand Caravan might be the best retirement minivan for you.
Chrysler Pacifica
The Chrysler Pacifica also makes the list of minivans that will last you throughout retirement, with a reliability score of 6.1 out of 10. Like the Grand Caravan, it has a towing capacity of 3,600 pounds. The average mpg is also competitive, between 20 and 22. The Pacifica does come with a higher price tag — $42,450 for base models — but is nevertheless a great minivan for retirement.
“The Chrysler Pacifica stands out for its upscale feel and innovative features,” said Joe Giranda, a car expert and Director of Sales & Marketing at CFR Classic. “It’s available as a plug-in hybrid (Pacifica Hybrid), which offers up to 32 miles of all-electric range, perfect for short trips around town or running errands. The Pacifica also features Stow ‘n Go seating, allowing the rear seats to fold flat into the floor for maximum cargo flexibility. Its quiet cabin and smooth ride make it an ideal option for retirees who value comfort.”
The Bottom Line
Have you looked into any of these minivans? When nearing retirement, it’s important to think about the longevity of the minivan you’re purchasing. After all, having to unexpectedly trade in your minivan after just a few years of use can derail your financial plan and budget.
