6 SUVs That Last the Longest Over 5 Years

One of the realities of new vehicle shopping is that, no matter how expensive or cheap your new ride is, it immediately begins depreciating in value the second you drive it off the lot. SUVs are no different, and these pricey vehicles can suffer steep value depreciation very, very quickly.

Luckily, for those new SUV shoppers hoping to find some resale value in your next purchase, iSeeCars recently published a study breaking down the vehicles that depreciate the most (and the least) in the auto market. Part of that list? The SUVs whose values last the longest over five years. Keep reading to find your next long-running SUV.

As How-To Geek noted, the Toyota RAV4 SUV has the “halo” of Toyota around its name — the auto manufacturer has a brand that’s synonymous with quality. Add to that the fact that the RAV4 is loaded with modern tech, suffused with a bevy of safety features and has a rather roomy interior, and drivers have every reason to trust that the RAV4’s value will only depreciate incrementally and slowly.

• Average 5-year depreciation: 31.3%
• Loss of value vs. MSRP: $12,753

Top Speed has clocked the Toyota 4Runner as a rather above average SUV in terms of reliability — once again in keeping with Toyota’s reputation — which staves off a high depreciation rate.

• Average 5-year depreciation: 33%
• Loss of value vs. MSRP: $8,511

With a great value thanks to its standard and highly-reliable all-wheel drive, advanced safety features and tech, and its comfortable and luxurious interiors, U.S. News & World Report noted that the Crosstrek does just as well in the used market as it does on the road.

• Average 5-year depreciation: 33.9%
• Loss of value vs. MSRP: $10,888

The Jeep Wrangler is a rugged and comfortable SUV that handles just as easily on the highway as it does off-roading. Its reliability and durability make it strong enough to thrive in the aftermarket without losing most of its value, per Top Speed.

• Average 5-year depreciation: 34%
• Loss of value vs. MSRP: $8,640

Much like the other SUVs on this list, the Honda HR-V is defined by its reliability, as well as its efficiency and affordability — all things that allow it to last long on the road and the resell market, as per Top Speed.

• Average 5-year depreciation: 35.2%
• Loss of value vs. MSRP: $10,602

As Top Speed reported, the Honda CR-V merges the rugged reliability of a traditional Honda SUV with the clean efficiency of an electric vehicle (EV). Thanks to this, its gradual depreciation over time in the aftermarket is never steep.
