After years of dwindling numbers, the American used car market is finally on the upswing. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, one of its economic victims was new car production — which, in turn, impacted the used car market, especially reducing the amount of 1- to 5-year-old cars available for purchase. This trend continued throughout 2024; but, in 2025, used cars are finally making a comeback.
According to iSeeCars, used car prices are increasing as the market is growing. However, that isn’t true for every car brand. In fact, a number of car brands have seen price drops throughout 2025.
Tesla, Elon Musk’s electric car brand, has seen the biggest price drop, with an 8.4% decrease since this time last year. While an explanation has not been provided for such a dip, it does coincide with Musk’s controversial time as a member of President Donald Trump’s administration, which caused Tesla’s stock prices to drop significantly.
Elsewhere, a number of reliable American auto brands, as well as high-end luxury car companies, have experienced shortfalls with their used models in 2025.
