Summer is an ideal time to purchase fresh fruit and produce at budget-friendly prices. With grocery costs already up 2.4% in 2025, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, shoppers need to find good deals where they can. Costco is particularly good at offering bulk items at reasonable prices.

One way to stay ahead of grocery cost inflation is to plan your meals around items that are in season. You can even purchase extras and freeze them for later, so you can enjoy some of the items below year-round. Here are a few different Costco grocery items that are either in season in the summertime or too unique to pass up.

Watermelons

  • Price: $6.80

Seedless watermelons are another summer staple. Though shoppers can purchase watermelon all year long, the prices and flavor are the best in the summertime. Watermelons are also very hydrating, affordable, and ideal for those who want to have one last summer barbecue.

Alaskan Sockeye Salmon

  • Price: $45.39

Depending on where you live, Costco offers either fresh Alaskan sockeye salmon or frozen bags. Some stores provide both. Either way, summer is the prime selling season for sockeye salmon. Add them to the grill or over a nice summer salad.

Golden Hami

  • Price: $5.66

This fruit is so unique that Food & Wine published an article featuring it. Golden Hami are melons that Costco offers a few times a year. Over the past few years, the popularity of these melons has grown. Some describe it as a mix between a cantaloupe and an apple. Shoppers will enjoy trying out a new fruit if they haven’t already and adding it to their end-of-summer lineup.
