Much of what Dollar Tree offers in the grocery section delivers get-what-you-pay-for quality and quantity, both of which may not justify the savings in many cases.

However, there are some exceptions. The following Dollar Tree grocery gems offer solid value and well-known brand familiarity at a discount — often a deep one — compared with the same purchases made at full-service supermarkets or big-box stores.

Goya Beans

An AllRecipes survey of chefs found Goya to be the preferred brand for dried and canned beans among restaurant pros, and the ubiquitous label is a staple in supermarkets nationwide. However, Dollar Tree can help budget-minded buyers save money on one of the biggest bean brands at their favorite discount store.

Dollar Tree sells 15 1/2-ounce Goya cans for $1.50, which is 8 cents less than the same item at Walmart and Lidl.

Supreme Tradition Spices

Flavorful, high-quality spices add character to meals — but they also add dollars to grocery budgets because good spices tend to be costly.

Popular brands like McCormick can cost well over $2 per ounce at stores like ShopRite, but even ShopRite’s in-house Bowl & Basket brand spices can set you back more than $1 an ounce.

However, most spices in Dollar Tree’s Supreme Tradition line cost just 50 cents an ounce. Publications such as TastingTable and Food Republic have conducted taste tests and chef surveys that consistently conclude that most Supreme Tradition spices are as good or better than many far pricier brands.

Top Ramen

Ramen noodles are a go-to choice for a filling and cost-effective meal in a pinch. Like Goya, Nissin’s Top Ramen is a brand that millions know and love, and the contents don’t change no matter where you buy them — but the price certainly can.

At Dollar Tree, a pack of five 3-ounce packages of Top Ramen costs $1.50. At Walmart, the same chicken flavor five-pack costs $11.99.

Shelf-Stable Seafood

Dollar Tree stocks the same name-brand canned and pouch tuna and other fish that dominate the pantry seafood aisle in most grocery and big-box stores but often at a deep discount.

For example, a 2 1/2-ounce pouch of Bumble Bee wild-caught light tuna in water costs $1.50 at Dollar Tree, but the same package costs $7.16 at Walmart — nearly five times as much.

Editor’s note: Pricing and availability may vary depending on location.
