When you want fast food at a great value, the obvious answer for where to dine is McDonald’s. The golden arches are a beacon for anyone looking for a filling meal that won’t drain their budget. But did you know there are a few secret ways that you can lower your bill at the checkout register and still get all your favorite Mickey D’s items?

If you find yourself spending too much on McDonald’s, here are five top hacks to save even more at your favorite fast food restaurant.

Get the McDonald’s App

When you download the McDonald’s app to your smartphone, you are signing up for coupons, savings and rewards.

The Krazy Coupon Lady highlighted that the app is free to download and should be used for every visit to maximize savings, adding that users “get an order of free large fries (regularly $3.99) when you download the app and make any purchase of $1 or more.”

McNuggets Should Be Ordered in Bulk

Might sound counterintuitive, but it’s true: the more Chicken McNuggets you order, the more money you actually save.

TastingTable broke it down that for $14.29, you can get a 40-pack of McNuggets, which amounts to roughly 35 cents per piece. Compare that with the $2.19 price of a four-pack of McNuggets which adds an additional 20 cents to each meaty morsel, making it 55 cents a piece.

Use Points at the 1,500 Tier

With the McDonald’s app, you start to rack up points with each order, which can be converted into free food on future visits. Just make sure you are in the 1,500 tier level so you can get the best cashback value, according to The Krazy Coupon Lady.

Fill Out Your the Survey on Your Receipt

Don’t throw away your receipt when you get your food. Instead, take some time to fill out the survey questions attached that can be uploaded to the McDonald’s customer satisfaction page.

You’ll be glad you took the time to give your opinion because your answers can be turned into free hamburgers, fries and more when McDonald’s sends you a survey code you can redeem later.

Eat With a Senior

Do you have a friend or family member who is 55 years of age or older? Bring them to McDonald’s so they can take advantage of the 10% off senior discount.

According to the Daily Meal, McDonald’s offer to older customers might not be as good as other restaurants and can fluctuate in availability depending on location. That being said, it never hurts to bring an elder companion in your life along with you to share a meal at your favorite fast food restaurant. Just make sure to buy them dessert as a way to say thank you.
