As much as many shoppers may think everything they buy at Target is a good deal, not all purchases made at Target help save money in the long run. This is especially true of household essentials. Many are worth picking up at Target over competing big-box stores, but not all shoppers know which items they should always buy to receive the maximum amount in savings.
To determine what purchases save the most money, GOBankingRates checked in with several subreddit communities on Reddit to see which household essentials shoppers recommend buying at Target.
Tide High Efficiency Liquid Laundry Detergent
- Price: $19.99
Several members in the r/Frugal community recommended shopping for laundry detergent at Target. One user, 5up3r1337h4x0r, recommended checking for laundry detergent that gives you a $10 gift card when you purchase three select household items.
Currently, Tide high efficiency liquid laundry detergent is part of the buy three, get a $10 Target gift card Target Circle Deal. Shoppers may choose from a variety of sizes: the size mentioned for $19.99 is 132 fluid ounces. The price per fluid ounce comes out to about 15 cents with this purchase.
Charmin Ultra Strong Toilet Paper
- Price: $26.49
The same Reddit user, 5up3r1337h4x0r, recommended checking Target for similar “buy three, get a $10 Target gift card” deals available on toilet paper.
“The price elsewhere was $3 or $4 more expensive each unit than it was at Target,” they said.
As you shop, remember to read the fine print to ensure the toilet paper you’re purchasing is eligible for these deals. Right now, a 24-pack of Charmin ultra strong toilet paper in the mega size can be redeemed for the buy three, get a $10 Target gift card offer. A six-count package from the same brand, on the other hand, isn’t eligible.
Bounty Select-A-Size Paper Towels
- Price: $16.99
Paper towels are another paper product to shop at Target, according to Reddit users, as many brands are eligible for the buy three, get a $10 Target gift card offer.
These specific Bounty paper towels linked are for the triple size in a six-count package. Not only would Target shoppers be able to receive a gift card, but they’d wind up getting plenty of bang for their buck from the overall purchase. Per paper towel roll, you’re only paying about $2.10 each.
up & up UltraStretch Tall Kitchen Drawstring Trash Bags
- Price: $10.69
Several Reddit users recommended shopping for household items under the up & up brand umbrella to save money. The up & up UltraStretch tall kitchen drawstring trash bags hold up to 13 gallons and include 50 bags per box. A little quick math reveals each trash bag costs about 24 cents.
“I love their own brand of tall kitchen garbage bags,” said Reddit user feelingmyage. “They fit snugly around our kitchen garbage pail, and they never fall down into it, no matter how full they get.”
Cascade Platinum ActionPacs Dishwasher Detergents
- Price: $19.99
Dishwashing detergents are another household item worth stocking up on at Target because shoppers — you guessed it — can find various brands eligible for the buy three, receive a $10 Target gift card deal.
A 62-count container of Cascade Platinum ActionPacs dishwasher detergents is currently eligible for this deal. Target shoppers only wind up paying about 32 cents per dishwashing cycle with this purchase.
Threshold Performance Plus Bath Towel
- Price: $9
Multiple Reddit users said the Threshold bath towels are among some of the best household items to buy at Target if you want to save money. One user wrote that they purchased a set of four towels five years ago and “they are still surprisingly thick and fluffy.”
The price per towel is also reasonable if you need to replace your current bath towels. Threshold Performance Plus bath towels are $9 with a wide range of colors and patterns to choose from.
Room Essentials Plush Pillow Standard/Queen
- Price: $3.50
The final must-buy household item at Target is the Room Essentials plush pillow.
While it’s true that these don’t offer Target shoppers the same gift card eligibility as many of the aforementioned items, this bed pillow is a big hit in the Reddit community as a great frugal buy thanks to its $3.50 price tag.
Prices are accurate as of April 29, 2024, and are subject to change.
